Your Opinion: LSU as a triple-option team

Jefferson at QB
Ware at FB
Gore and Shep alternating at RB
As great as our stable seems to be, and given all the uncertainty at QB, would this please you or infuriate you?

I think you are vastly over-rating JJs abilities to run the option...
And good luck recruiting any receivers next season.

When is the last time a team has won a NC with the triple option. STFU and get out.

Infuriate: not the 20s any more. I feel like the option isn't any good for winning NCs unless you have a freak like CN

No. We have good WRs. Use them. And stopping the triple option is apparently not hard anymore. We shut it down in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl against Georgia Tech.

triple option is weak as shite. unless it's ran how florida did it.

Navy runs it successfully. GT runs it successfully. Neither have the athletes that LSU does. No team in the NC contention runs the offense, and there's a reason for it.
But
We're stacked at RB and young/inexperienced at WR outside of Randle. With teams keying on the run, it probably wouldn't hurt Randles yards at all compared with his meager output these last few years.
It'd be interesting at least. With the monster OL that we're going to have this year, and the problems at QB, it seems at least plausible.
Of course, I'm a huge fan of running the ball way more than necessary, churning up yards, running down the clock, and keeping your defense off the field. And as has been mentioned, I'm probably overestimating JJ's ability to actually run it.

This would infuriate me. It is fun to run on video games, but when you have the WR talent that we do, it would be stupid.

And neither plays in the SEC & neither plays AGAINST the type athletes that LSU has,ie. entire SEC.

that's why they run it...if they had the athletes they wouldn't run it

This
Also, if LSU were to run the triple option I'm pretty sure Shep would be your QB. He was the #1 dual threat QB in high school running the spread option.

If I was running triple option, I'd have
QB Shep
FB Ford
HB Ware

Tough to say.
RS would seem like the more logical choice, but even triple option QBs throw the ball every once in a while, and whether it's because he can't or what the hell ever, Shep hasn't thrown a single pass in two years.

And thats why you're not the coach, stick to your day job..! The triple option is terrible. Its the same play over and over, just to differant sides of the field..!!

That's why it's easy to defend. If my memory serves me correctly, LSU practiced defending without the use of a football. What they did was play man-to-man and played strictly assignment football. Each player had a guy to attack and they were not to leave him so that all of the QB's options were taken away.

no. terrible idea. The oline is not physically suited for the triple option. Not to mention, not one QB on the current roster can even run the option. If you think JJ is an option QB, watch him run it.

Can you believe Shep hasn't thrown a pass in a game since high school? Please don't tell me he cant throw. Check out his game tape highlights in HS and that was 3 years ago. Sure he doesn't have a great arm but come on how about a 10 yarder off the jet sweep to the right? He can throw a 10-15 yarder, its not that hard.
I would run a basic triple option play about 4 times a game. I would let Shep throw it about 2 times a game. That is 6 plays out of what 50, 60, 70 plays a game. Is that asking for to much. How do ya know it wouldn't work unless you try it?
Remember, every D would have to account for this in there preparations for us.
