Your LSU fan conversion story

I have a senior citizen friend who grew up on Long Island, NY in the 1950s, went to Temple, and so cared nothing for LSU football.
One Saturday night he discovered WWL 870, Billy Cannon and the Chinese Bandits. He has been a huge Tiger fan ever since, tho he still lives on Long Island.
What's your conversion story to LSU fandom?

Truthfully started when Shaq was here as I watched every game his last year but my first football game was in Shreveport vs non other than Nick Saban and Michigan State in 1995. Eddie Kenison(sp) ran one back that game. Fun experience as I am from North Louisiana but now in BR. Fan ever since

My family moved to Louisiana from Alabama about the time I started high school. I embraced Louisiana as my new home and hoped LSU beat the shite outta Bama and Auburn after that

I grew up in Jersey, moved to LA in '92. Didn't care about LSU, and only chose to go there because I had a scholarship. Only watched a few games my freshman year. My sophomore year, went with my roommates to the Bring Back the Magic game against Auburn. Sitting in the student section that night is when I fell in love with LSU.

I'm a BYU fan who roots hard for LSU. It started for me back in 2007 when former BYU HC Gary Crowton became your OC. Crowton drove our program into the ground, but once a Cougar, always a Cougar. I knew that his offense and style would work well with the Mad Hatter (it did for a while). Loved watching his offense executed with real athletes (no offense to our 5'8" white RBs and WRs). And of course I hate Bama (and most of the SEC honestly) so LSU is a natural draw for me. '08 NC run had me hooked.
Also, Death Valley is insane on TV (especially at night). You have the best field in college football with the eye and the numbers every 5 yards. As a BYU fan, I'm glad we don't have to play you in Death Valley because it would be hard for even the most hopeful of us to predict a victory there. But at the same time.. it'd be pretty bad arse to see my boys battling in such an iconic venue.

October 9, 1983 my dad took me to my first LSU game. Florida beat the hell out of us. I didn't care...kept asking about the drunk guy with a flask in the row ahead of us and why he was asleep. Nose bleeds on the old west side. Great time I think. Can't believe my dad took me there to be honest.

born into it, born in 1957, my father's younger brother was on that team

As a small kid, I always watched LSU with my parents and thoroughly enjoyed the Tigers. But at 10 years old, my dad got tickets to the 1997 Florida game in Death Valley. LSU knocked off #1 in the country and the place came unglued. After that experience, there was no turning back.
10 years later, as a sophomore living on fraternity row, I saw LSU wipe out Florida and Tim Tebow (that year's Heisman Trophy winner) in the most raucous game I have had the pleasure to behold with my bourbon-soaked brethren. USC also lost that night, opening the path for LSU in the BCS race. When that news came across the ticker in the stadium... it was pandemonium. Follow the link if you doubt.
Oh yes.
Capped that season by attending LSU's national championship win in New Orleans over Jim Tressel's Ohio State in January. All of my lodging options were in Metairie, so I instead slept in the bed of my truck 500 yards from the Super Dome so that I could start the party at 5:00 am with the rest of my degenerate buddies. It was a sublime experience and the first time beer+ (beer plus bourbon) touched my underage lips. On the way home from victory the next day, I had to pull over on the spillway to yack up that strange yellow liquid you only get from Bourbon Street hand grenades. It was the best vomit of my life.
My formative years were the golden age of LSU football... and I don't think those years are quite over yet...

It is believed I was conceived the night Cannon ran the famous punt return. That was the point of my conversion. Daddy was an LSU grad and bled purple and gold. So do I!!!

father was air force. I was born in Alek. we did 2 different stints at England air force base. dad is a Ga boy and dawg fan. mom is from plaquemine and all her fam are La. natives. dad tried his best to raise me a dawg. I liked uga at an early age. Herschel, etc. but I never fully embraced them. I always had an interest in lsu because of my birth state and many family alums. always had a thing for La culture and always been closer to my La side of the fam. started paying attention to lsu in the early 80's. my dad thought it was a confused phase. one night, he walked in on me in my room listening to lsu/miss st on wwl from our home in Ga. he was horrified. what was he gonna tell his friends? had he failed as a parent? was I born this way or was it a choice? although my old man doesn't agree with my lifestyle, he loves me and supports me. we still talk football year round. even got him to don the purple and gold at the 2012 chick fil a bowl.
