Discipline first.

Everything else is secondary.

Why can't you have both? And if you have the former, maybe you won't have to worry about the latter as often. The word discipline may look narrow in application, but it isn't. Think how you correct your children.

The truth is that is very difficult keeping young males in line. Even the great Bear Bryant, who was no slouch as a disciplinarian couldn't keep Namath and Stabler in harness all of the time.

That's an opinion based on Miles' history with holding off disciplinary measures until his hand is forced. See Mathieu's first suspension for a reference. Or the fact that Jeremy Hill is still on scholarship at LSU.

Miles did not have a choice with TM7, he was suspensd due to university policy. Miles would have swept it under the rug and kept going had it been within his discretion. Please don't try to make Miles the great moralist for suspending Mathieu because that is not what happened.
----------------------------------------------
Bull@#$%
Miles suspended him along with two other starters for a big SEC game and let the world know that his Heisman candidate was doing drugs. He didnt have to because it was synthetic "legal" marijuana at the time and he still pulled the trigger. Tell me any other SEC starters that were suspended for a big SEC game for smoking synthetic marijuana? He pulled the trigger on Ryan Perriloux a few years earlier than that when his own job was very insecure knowing all he had was two inexperienced freshman QB's left on the roster.
U can criticize his quotes with the press and some of his game day decisions but to question his integrity when he continues to do the right thing time and time again is crap. Look around and tell me who has a better moral track record than him and has also a similar winning %. If Miles isnt a great moralist tell me the ones that he's behind?

We don't know for sure that Miles would have swept it under the rug. We never got to find out. The whole situation was university policy when it came to testing players. It wasn't Les Miles testing policy. Mathieu got caught by LSU and was dealt with by LSU.
