Would a 2 year penalty for transferring ever be a reality?

I know it sounds drastic, but maybe I'm just old fashioned. If you make a commitment to a program, you should see it through, and do what you can to better the program in your time there. I'm not trying to bash the recent kids transferring, but there is honor in loving the school you selected and sticking with it.

My example to give would be Deion Jones, the guy was given select playing time for 3 straight years and easily could have gone and started for another school, yet he waited it out and killed it his senior year, making him a lot of money and a 2nd round draft pick.

What do you guys think? I know it would have sweeping ramifications but would it eliminate any of these early transfers?

No.

Guys should not be punished that heavily if a coaching staff does not use their talents appropriately.

Let the kids play the game they love without being penalized when they can't beat out better players. Non athletes transfer all the time.

I like the rule they have now. Situations just don't work sometimes for the player.

Leave it the way it is.

I'm sure things they are told when recruited don't always come to be.
In addition, aren't scholarships renewed yearly???

Right, you're just saying they have no honor.

Agreed, but I'd also add that players should be able to transfer without sitting out a year if the head coach leaves

Why should the student be forced to honor the "commitment"?

Players can lose their scholarship for no reason other than somebody else is better.

Coaches can transfer at will with no repercussions.

Players are student athletes. They should be able to transfer just like a regular student with no other restrictions.

Why would you want to do that to a kid?

What about coaches that leave their school for better opportunities, like Aranda for instance. Does he have honor?

Most of these coaches will tell a recruit ANYTHING to get them to commit. I would bet many of them feel lied to. Its the kids life, not the schools.

I don't think there Should be any punishment at all.

Great point. The school is not committing to the player for 4 years, only 1 year at a time.

If the school doesn't have to commit, neither should they player.

No disrespect, but this idea is damn near communism! Down right scary as hell. Coaches can take jobs any where they please, but now you want the kid to take a two year hit. This is the kind of mindset that scares the hell out of me.

I think if they transfer OOC there shouldn't be a penalty.

1. What recruiters promise and what is real are not always the same thing.

2. Impressionable kids make mistakes or let hype lead them down the wrong path.

3. Kids might find themselves in a darker place than expected their first time away from home.

I have no problem with kids transferring. One year is plenty steep a penalty.

I'm sorry for the kids this year though.....they gonna miss out on that Natty Ring!!!!

This is one of the biggest misnomers caused by all the hype created through following high school recruiting.

Sometimes guys take a long time to develop or simply don't pan out. It can be attitude, ability, or bad habits formed by being a big fish in a small pond.

Rarely does a guy transfer from LSU and become very successful at another school. I suspect the same thing happens at other programs.
