The tone amongst LSU fans pre-Bama game is a complete 180 from right now. There was not a single person in Louisiana who was talking about coaching changes (aside from the situation with the special teams coach) or speaking negatively about the direction of the program. Has there ever been so steep and fast a change in fan sentiment in program history?

I am of course excluding 1/9/12

At the beginning of the season many were speculating that was on the hot seat and would potentially be fired if LSU started 0-2 against MSU and Auburn.

This happened two times last season with Miss St. and Auburn as well as Alabama and Arkansas.

Alabama, Tulane, and Penn State after starting 9-0. Losing to Tulane was the worst defeat in History!

You realize LSU used to have losing seasons, right?

Being ranked # 2 after 7 games to most likely being unranked after 10 games will likely be one of the worst implosions in CFB history

Yes and I'm simply talking about the change in popular outlook and sentiments regarding direction of the program. In the 90's, how many times did we as a program be on the doorstep of championship contention, only to be all doom and gloom 2 weeks later?

The season where we went 9-0 and then lost to Bama, Tulane, and Penn State would be a decent comparison.

this thread is proof that many people never followed LSU football before 2003

1998 we were #6 in the country then lost 7 of the last 8 games

In 1988 we were SEC Champs. In 1989 we started the season ranked #7 and lost back to back games to unranked TA&M and an unranked FSU squad that was 0-2, losing to Southern Mississippi and Clemson to open the season (although they did win out to finish 10-2). After beating Ohio University we then lost 4 straight conference games. I think that has this season beat hands down.

I was and have for years...because I actually watch the games for the content as well as the results. My criticisms of the LSU program have ALWAYS been met by pumpers with W/L arguments. There are so many variables to wins/losses that are out of a coach's control (schedule, SEC west talent, luck, etc, etc). It's the things that Les could and can control that have been bad.

This

New QB
New DC
DL Depth
LB Depth

7-0 swept those unknowns & weaknesses under the rug.
