Baseball threads are tolerable until Memorial Day. Once the postseason comes around the football fans start to creep in that haven't watched a game all year and complain constantly and just repeat LSU baseball myths. February to May is my only enjoyable time being on this site. I find you can have legitimate baseball conversations for the most part and the game threads are very informative.

Why is it that baseball fans are so superstitious about stuff like that? I've been a baseball fan all my life and never actually believed any of that

I like the believe that I'm not superstitious when it comes to baseball, but I don't push it.

People started yapping about the no hitter, and it was broken up. Did it really have anything to do with Maryland getting a hit? No. Should it have been spoken about? Hell No.

Its just baseball I guess. I always did things a certain way when I played, yet told myself I'm not superstitious.

I wouldn't say football isn't that way at all. You don't know anybody that has a game day shirt? Or cooks a certain game deal meal, or drink? There are plenty of people who have to do a certain thing for football too.

Can't say that I do.

But why is it only baseball that this thing about certain feats (like a no-hitter), and other sports don't? I've never understood that. It's one thing in a dugout. I get leaving Poche on the other side by himself (although he could easily start thinking about it and blow it), but why on other do people believe that talking about it on a broadcast or the internet is going to jinx it?

Hell, Lynn and Ben were basically saying everything but no-hitter on TV. Lynn kept hinting at it. And Doug Thompson kept saying "still no hits" after the top of every inning.

I don't get it. Either talk about it or don't.

In that regard, side walk football fans are probably worse, because the side walk baseball fans likely don't know all the "unwritten rules" of the game. Can't hold that against them.

However, I don't know that any sidewalk fan is a good one.

I think football fans are worse period, especially with LSU. The baseball fans have always come off as very knowledgeable, and the games are not a bunch of drunks yelling at a ref or player.

i think for whatever reason, that's just the two sports in general.

Baseball fans tend to enjoy the game itself and it's subtleties. Yeah they want their team to win and are passionate about it, but at the end of the day, it's the game they love.

if i had to guess it's because damn near every kid in america has played some level of organized baseball. Many played their entire childhoods. And because of it they understand and respect its difficulty a whole a lot more than they do other sports. They tend to know just how hard it is to play at even the high school level, let alone the top tier of College ball or beyond.

Whereas football, unless you were born with freakish speed or a borderline giant, they probably didn't play it very long. So the appreciation for just how hard it is to play at that level isn't the same. Everyone is a great player and coach on Madden, so why isn't my team scoring 70+ every game?

no clue why it's not like that in any other sport, but they need to extend it toward kickers in football.

maybe it's because i was a baseball player and a still a fan that i notice it, but i see this often:

"he's lining up for a 25 yard chip shot. He's perfect on the season from inside 40 yards. and he shanks it off the upright"

Scenario: late innings, pitchers dual, LSU at bat, no outs, first batter walks

What do you do? Bunt the runner into scoring position.

It's successful. What does this type of fan say?

"What the hell Mainieri? Let them hit"

Same line if it's a hit and run called instead that leads to a double play

That type of fan annoys me and is why I listen to the radio broadcast at the game

Watch the highlights from the end of the Bluegrass Miracle.

The UK players, the announcers and especially the production crew totally jinxed Kentucky.

The players dumped Gatorade on the coach before the final play, announcers were talking as though it was over and a graphic flashed up on the screen showing the score as "Final" right as LSU was snapping the ball.

It's not the only example, but it's one that sticks out in my memory of the sports gods being angered and unleashing their wrath on the offending party.

it was a generalization and not meant to be all encompassing.

small slow guys typically don't play football.
either by their own choice, or momma didn't let them, or coach buried them in the bench.

I have no problem with the baseball posters. Even the posters with little knowledge add to the discussion or ask questions. Jesus help us in football, we have guys talking about missed assignments without knowing the play call.

Ridiculous comment. There's more thought, strategy, tactics involved in a single football play than in a baseball game.
