our starting 11 are as talented as any in the country. Only weakness in the starting 11 are the defensive ends. They are smallish and not experienced. Starting DT's are beasts and I am feeling better about the depth there as Gilmore and Herron have apparently passed up Q Thomas on the depth chart. So they have to be pretty good. MLB we have one of the best in the country with Beckwith. A thumper with size and speed. OLB's are experienced and have talent. DB's are talented and plenty of depth. Starting 11 are as good as it gets and we seem to have quality depth.

Steel is upgrayedd and will bring a double dose of his pimp style D compared to Chavis

Actually, we return 10.5 of the 19 sacks last year. Our starting DE Daneille Hunter's 1.5 sacks were exceeded by a defensive tackle (LaCouture) and his backup (Teuhama). I think our lack of sacks last year were primarily a function of Chavis' scheme, and how he used DE's for contain. In the past three seasons, only one player has exceeded 5 sacks in a season for LSU: Sam Montgomery with 8 in 2012.

I believe defense will be more exciting this year (more sacks and turnovers), but will be less consistent. More busts and big plays allowed. The key is canSteele make in game adjustments that are key to winning games in the 4thquarter.

*** Corey Raymond has grown very comfortable with his defensive back stable and look for him to have a deep DB rotation that will fluctuate based on who the opponent is.

*** There should not be any concern over the impact of Ed Orgeron and Kevin Steele’s influence on the defense one source said. “That front seven is coached up more than I can ever recall the defense being in the last seven years.” You know what LSU has in the secondary so that is even more validation to how good the defense could be in 2015.

So with proper technique a donkey could win the Kentucky Derby.

We are much stronger in the middle of the front 7 this year than last in beginning of year - with an injured Thomas, freshman Godchaux and Welter. We had major problems that Miss st quickly exploited.

The only thing that looks suspect from the outside is the depth on the front seven. As good as Beckwith is he can be mitigated in the fourth quarter if guards can single block tired defensive tackles and let the center free into the second level. I don't see a lot of sacks, but sacks aren't a great indicator of success in college football anyway. Lsu can't afford fatigue or injuries in the front seven from the way it looks, particularly at defensive line and ILB

I'll be happy when I see that we can stop the QB run up the gut. We'll find out in 3 weeks.
