Will the offense realistically change this year?

Sitting here counting down the days until football amped for this year. We have 18 returning starters, a QB with experience, Heisman candidate, and a solid receiving core.
Despite these wonderful things, I am 97% sure the first offensive play will be run to the left side, and it will be a toss dive and I will proceed to throw the remote either at the tv or the dog.

So what are the odds that things change?

Not really.

Maybe better execution because of experience. Miles believes and has the players believing it's just about execution.

I wish we would get more creative though and have more trust and confidence in other areas on offense.

Has it really ever changed since Miles has been here? It's more about better execution rather than of changing the offense.

Personally, I think so. With Miles now realising his job title isn't certain and with possibly the most talented team this year, he will be under pressure to change the offense more than ever. Harris is now primed to excel at the best timing possible, we have great depth on both sides of the ball, 18 returning starters, arguably the best coaching staff in college football and the schedule couldn't work out much better. We saw glimpses of what Harris was capable of last season, so if we see a balanced offense this season on the back of that Aranda D, this team will be something special

Would you propose the Hurry up No Huddle?

Not often, but the 2013 offense had some balance.. As well as the 2007.

Both had senior quarterbacks Miles trusted though. The 07 offense was cool how Perrilloux was incorporated.

It just frustrates me that Miles will continue to try to impose his will against equally talented teams even when it doesn't work.. And it's clear it's not going to work. He sticks to it and there's no alternative course of action. I don't want balance in terms of equal pass to run ratios per game. I want balance that we have options to execute whatever we need to exploit a defense's weaknesses.

Would love to see us have a confident offense that even if we turn it over.. It's no big deal because we can make it right back up with our talent. Rather our players play with confidence than playing like walking on eggshells.. I'm speaking more about the quarterback position and his lack of opportunity to pass..

We have so much talent on offense.. Even the true freshman receivers we have coming in have incredible measurables.. And I think their talents should be utilized. I'd love to see our backs catch more passes out the backfield as well. It's the old cliche but it's going to hinge on how confident Miles feels about his quarterback..

I think we will have much more balance, and we will see more spread/pistol sets for fournette and Guice to give them better running lanes. We should see Harris with the full keys to the offense.

Can I get a Amen from a tiger fan on throwing to the TE. We never use the middle of the field. We need to open up the middle to keep the LBers and safeties from stacking the box against the run. Please please sweet Jesus can I get an Amen?

I think what is amazing is the amount of people who think it doesn't change!! Is there a consistent philosophical influence? Yes, but the types of plays are different! Miles is a run oriented ball control offensive guy; but if ya'll think Fisher, Crowton, Stud, and Cameron are all running the exact same offense/plays.......Please go get some football education! What hasn't/won't change is the constant bitching regardless of results. If we win, it was not by a large enough margin and the game was too close. If we win big, well we didn't get our back ups enough work. Or LF7 didn't get enough yards.... Or we need to work on our passing game more.....Or the defense gave up too many yards..... Or the special teams sucks and we need to fire Peveto....

Regardless the coach or the results there are so many miserable people on this board needing to bitch...... sucks to be ya'll.

If the OC remains on the sideline which is where he was for the bowl game, we have a chance.

Doesn't matter how well you execute if the other team knows EXACTLY what you are going to do.

Yes. It has gone from average to horrible. A few peaks and valleys along the way, but the trend is downward.

I think it's one think to say you will change. I think it's another to actually change from a way you've been doing it all your life, you truly believe is the best way, an mostly with bottom line success and move to a way of doing things that you really in your heart don't believe in.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

This offense, regardless of sets and play calls will only be as good as the guy that gets the ball everytime first.

I'm not overjoyed.
I hope he proves me wrong.
Sure didn't see any improvement from Harris in spring game.

It will change very little. That's because it doesn't need to change much. We need to mix in more passes. Miles wants to be at about 58% run, but he needs a competent QB to do that. In the last four years we've only had one season with a (nearly) competent QB, and that year Mett threw about 40% of the time.

Mett had way above average talent, but his decision making was terrible. Still we threw the ball enough that year to worry teams.

I think that this year you will see 40% passing. Harris is not quite where they want him from a decision making point of view. In 2017 I believe we'll see a senior QB throw more than 40% of the time, and then we'll have great balance.

exactly. Very simple concept -- don't let the opponent know what you're going to do.

Of course execution is important, but you also need to keep the defense guessing so they don't gain an advantage.

It's really not that complicated.
