Why was Keehn recruited?

I am reading his Bio and I am baffled. The dude did not play high school football and there is no mention of even playing rugby. It says he excelled in javelin and rowing. He is also old (compared to most players), he is currently 26! How in the world did someone like Keehn get recruited to play for LSU? I am genuinely curious how this came about. How can someone whose bio says he never kicked a ball get a scholarship at one of the best CFB programs over tons of guys who kicked all through high school? His first snap EVER, in any kind of football game, came at LSU's season opener his freshmen year. This is clearly a shitty strategy but even if he was the best punter ever, I would wonder how this all came to be. Can someone shed some light on this? They have to be leaving something out in his bio, did he play rugby after high school?

Prokick Australia. The same place our other punter, Josh Growden, was coached at.

If we have another punter on the roster then Keehn needs to have a seat until he's over the yips.

On the heels of Brad Wing's stardom....I remember when they signed him.. there was a video of him and a coach and he was punting 60 yard bombs making them land within feet of different buckets. it was impressive. Must've been fake

He was All SEC last year, some how you don't grasp facts really well do you?

Thank you for the serious answer. I find it odd they didn't mention this in his bio, seems like an important thing to leave out. They basically went out of their way to point out how he is completely unqualified for the job. I guess if he does well it makes him look like a "can do anything" type of athlete but there is a flip-side to that which is what I was looking at.

I asked how he was recruited and why. I even said my question would be the same if he was the best in the country. You don't read well, do you?

Here is thought, last year he was 2nd team All SEC and averaged over 44 YPP. maybe the coaches realize the punt coverage stinks and has him doing something different. In the two close games his last punts were money.
I'm not saying Keehn is having a great year, but sometimes in football stats don't tell the whole story.

It's not rugby. None of these Aussie kickers (there are now quite a few of them in college football, following the success of Brad Wing) played rugby, they played Australian Rules football. As did Keehn.
Aussie Rules is a completely different game, nothing like rugby, in which the primary skill of all players is kicking a ball (which is shaped a lot like an American football) for distance and accuracy.
Keehn was recruited from Prokick Australia, an academy which trains good Aussie Rules kickers for a shot at American football.

So what? Unfortunately, we can't use last year's performance when it's time to punter this year. This year, he shouldn't be starting, period

They need to get a guru there to work with him over the next 2 weeks. To win Nov. 7, we need to be firing 100% on all cylinders, and that includes an excellent punting game.

Seriously you typed that!!!!! You are correct I guess, Keehn is having a worse year than his stats say and that is pretty fricking bad in the first place!!!
