Just wondering, I've seen post that he will be the Friday starter next year. I'm guessing he hasn't built up the stamina to go. Hess has been straight nasty out the pen. Would hate to lose that, but Hess > Gilbert.

There's a good chance we'll need Hess out of the pen tomorrow to win, but if we don't; then I'm in favor of starting him Saturday. I'd roll the dice that he would hold OSU scoreless for the first 4+ innings, while our offense hopefully gets the lead. Then turn it over to Gilbert and Newman. I think that scenario puts a ton of pressure on OSU and gives LSU the best chance to win. He'd go back to his relief role in the championship series.

Because we need him to throw 97 and close up a big game, and be healthy enough to go again the next game(s). Cant afford to put anyone else in there, except maybe Newman but Hess is lights out.

Actually, he began the season as our midweek starting pitcher.

Because he's going to be our starting quarterback in the fall. Duh.

I know he did, that's why I ask.

I'll give your idea some consideration.

I'd prefer us to go Gilbert, Hess, then Newman on Saturday if we get there.

I'm all in on Hess for starting Saturday if needed. I trust him over Gilbert to give us 4 or 5 good innings. The guy is essentially unhittable and has a good mojo currently, so why not

If Lange wins tomorrow, all the pressure is on OSU.

Not diminishing what Hess has done recently, but it's a completely different mindset knowing you just have to get 3 outs rather than going 5 innings and facing batters more than once.

Gilbert's done it before, I'm giving him the ball to start.

Different situation but I guess you had to see the talent and see the best way to use it.

Do you remember Matty Ott? Do you remember how awesome he was as a closer? Do you remember what happened to him when they tried to make him a starter?

Seems as though Hess has supplanted Hunter Newman as our ace in the hole closer. He'll likely stay in that role until next season.
