there is a 25-yard-long sign that reads, "Welcome to Death Valley'' mounted below the pressbox.

I miss that part of Tiger Stadium. Sure it is on the jumbotron but that sign was priceless.

I agree. I've been going to LSU football games since 1958 and never heard anything about a "Deaf" Valley until more recent times. I'm sooo glad it's not Deaf Valley. What a stupid name that would be.

Agree. Seems like there's some way they could bring it back.

Supposedly there was a "Deaf Valley Shell" station near campus but I don't ever remember seeing that either.

Tiger Stadium was never called Deaf Valley, repeat never in a LSU book, program, sports guide, newspaper, or magzine before 1986...

Son, Tiger Stadium has always been loud and rowdy. But it never had to be censored until 'some' of these students from planet
BLEEP started changing the words of proud LSU cheers and songs to get a childish tittering high-five and giggle out of each other - at the expense of the other 75,000 people in the stands and visiting press and fans.

It was originally called Deaf Valley and it morphed into Death Valley or something like that.
I agree with this.

I've been attending games in Tiger Stadium since I was a little kid in the late 1970's. I can be honest in my observations that Tiger Stadium has not been that intimidating the past few years. It takes big, big games to get the entire stadium involved - not to mention the recent trend of practice evacuation drills during halftime.

I love Tiger Stadium, but let's be honest - its not like it used to be.

I can also tell you that the language I hear from the "adults" in my section is no different than the words coming from the student section. The language in the student section was just as vulgar in the 1980's. Yes, I would prefer if we could all be intimidating without some profanity, but the student section really isn't that bad when compared to the tv and movies we all watch.

EST Tiger Stadium has always been that way, big games loud and rowdy, smaller games, far less fans and are not that loud.

But that happened even in the 1950's, 40's and 30's.

It is not new.

In the 70's a game vs Utah, Tulane etc was loud but not really loud like a USC, Alabama game.

I have been in u-19 with all of 40-50 people in the whole section at a game in the 70's, I can not see that happening into todays sports world.

Clemson used it, we thought it sounded great so we stole it since Clemson was/is/always will be insignificant.

TXTiger, you are definitely wrong. Auburn stole nothing from Clemson. Clemson was founded by an Auburn graduate, hence the mascot and the orange color. Clemson was not allowed the use of the color blue due to Auburn use of the color blue. Instead of blue, Clemson opted for the color purple. How could Auburn steal anything from Clemson when an Aubby grad. founded Clemson?

It was certainly there in the early 80's. It was my go to spot for beer. On the corner right where the (closed) Blockbuster is now.

It was named "Def Valley" by Russell Simmons. He pulled the rights to the name during the purple and gold Confederate flag incident of 2003.

You are right. It is just worse today. The Tiger Stadium of the early 1990's still exists in my nightmares. It just seems worse today and people seem to argue and complain about each other's behavior more often today - I guess the internet has contributed to this.
