Why is LSU the "purple and gold?"

The colors are obviously purple and yellow. Can we call the saints the "black and green?"

also, see how the shade of purple on our jersey is WAY off of the purple on the helmets. Not hard to fix that, don't quite get why it's been like that for years.

To 99.9999% of the worlds population, LSU wears yellow. But don't say that around here, where we've learned from google that yellow can be called old gold when you want to sound fancy.
