Why doesn't LSU hire a "Saban Type" BB coach?

When LSU hired Saban away from Michigan State, he was an up and coming head coach that needed better talent to win at the highest level.

LSU apparently has the talent but is lacking in coaching. Alleva came from Duke. You would think he might be able to hire someone with ties to Coach K.

JJ isn't getting the job done. Time for someone who can.

You think it's just that easy? Oh hey if we spend X amount of money, POOF! We get a hall of fame coach.

Look at Aggie football. They spent a fortune and got a terd sandwich. If it were that easy, we would have already done it.

Really? I thought our fanbase's obsession with Saban stopped during football season.

Because Dale and Collis wanted JJ and that's why you have JJ. Anyone who truly believes this is a well coached team is looking through the same foggy glasses as DB and CT!

Can we please wait to see how the season plays out. I know Johnny is just an ok coach but he has the most talent he has had at LSU is tied for first place in the league right now and still a good shot to make the tournament.

I think they need to throw big money at a proven winner or try to get lucky with a young up and coming coach. Hiring these retread coaches doesn't really do anything other than kill time. Eventually someone in a position of power will get serious about basketball. Until that happens you just need to hope the teams get lucky and go on a run based on pure athleticism.

Saban is a metaphor for coaching excellance. Sorry if that concept escapes you.

JJ hasn't done a good job at LSU. Nice guy, not a great coach.

BTW, it is that easy to hire a good coach. There are always up and coming coaches waiting for an LSU opportunity. Why hire re-treads. Sure, JJ played at LSU. I don't dislike JJ. I simply would call him a Jerry Stovall hire. Hope it would work out, but didn't.

LSU paid Saban the 3rd highest salary in CFB at the time to lure him away from MSU.

You think Joe Alleva is going to pay the next BB coach the 3rd highest salary in the nation?

I'd guess that would be around $6 million per year.

You would think that an AD at LSU would be able to make personnel decisions, but F. K. Alexander disagrees.

I'm the first to knock on JJ but last night was one of the better games LSU has played. Take away a few bad possessions by the PG's and poor free throw shooting and they win that game.

With that being said there have been MANY more games LSU won where they played terrible basketball with next day threads pumping sunshine....the first half vs. Mississippi state was some of the worst basketball I've seen this year by LSU....but they won so it's all forgotten.

I think this is the biggest problem with LSU's basketball fan base....the criticism is too closely tied to win/losses.

I know I'll get murdered for this with from tigerdroppings finest with regard to winning and losing being the only thing that matters.

Why do LSU fans think once in a generation coaches just grow on trees? Saban could go down as the best college coach ever, certainly top 3. Coach K is the same for basketball. EVERY SCHOOL IN THE COUNTRY wants to hire coaches like that. lol
