Why do we get hosed for the Heisman?

I feel like we should have more than 1 Heisman winner at LSU. Honey Badger should have won. LF7 should have won.
This is important to get the national recognition we deserve.

Honey badger was a defensive player and return guy so he had that going against him. LF was a true talent but never put up the numbers against bama or for a season that warranted heisman. I don't go back to the 80's or before for a player that deserved it.

If guys like Leonard Fornette or Josh Reed would've played in the early 90s or before they've had a great shot. Back then it was given to the guy who had the best season most of the time. Since the BSC era started it's been a team influenced award and according to guys like Steve Spurrier doesn't have the same meaning it used to. It's really taken away from the award and the charm that it brought to college football.

Agreed.. strange how the "best player in college football" has to be involved with the best teams... Lamar Jackson was a rare exception lately

Tyrann Mathieu was the best player in college football in 2011, and it really wasn't close.
So yeah, if he didn't win, it'll be hard for a defensive guy to win.

Neither of those guys you listed should have won, unless you make a case for TM, but I don't remember the field he went up against. Just bc you're a great talent doesn't mean you should win the Heisman. LF faded towards the end of his potential Heisman season. TM was a defensive player/return man and it's hard as hell on de players/return men, especially now days in the offensive world we live in.
IMO though, a better case could have been made for TM than LF. He absolutely dominated that year on de and ST.

Sorry bayou misclicked for a downvote but I agree 100% with you. LF never did finish a season off in "heisman" fashion. Mathieu did and didn't get the trophy simply because he was on the wrong side of the ball

TM also got suspended that year so he had that going against him too

Yea Jackson was and it was as if the voters wanted Watson to win but before the natty he kept having sub par efforts and throwing pics. I just think back when you had Jim McMahon, Andre Ware, Ty Detmer and Barry Sanders types winning it it made college football more interesting. Of course you're always gonna follow the contending teams but guys like that brought interest to games and teams you might not normally pay attention too. Especially for casual fans and children learning the game I think it helped to grow the sport.

The Heisman is the most irrelevant award in sports.
A better question would be 'why can't we ever beat Bama'?

Out of curiosity do you know where elway finished his senior year when Stanford went 5-6? Didn't see it his Wikipedia page. Guy was 1st pick in the draft so trying to compare

He finished second behind Hershel Walker. When you want to research stuff like that try the sports reference website they usually have anything you're looking for.

Fournette not winning in 2015 goes to show that most voters don't even watch the games.

before most of you were born...Stovall got hosed

Look who was our head coach before coach O. That ought to give you a pretty good idea why.

Unless you are a media darling, like woodson at michigan early 90's.
I have actually hoped lsu doesnt win a heisman. It is a joke now
Look at bama, never one won until the media loves them (read: espn tv ratings) despite being the best program in history. Besides Notre dame. Whom has many heisman, and were media darlings until they sucked

Who gives a flying frick about the heisman. When they stole it from Peyton I lost all respect for the Heisman

Or they were dialed in for the Bama game.

It doesn't help that we've ran a 1970's offense for the last 10 years or so.
