Why Didn't We Play More Man Coverage This Season?

I think our CBs (young and old) were better in man than in zone.

also think the safeties were left to play way too much man when the nickel and dime guys blitzed. I'd like to see the safeties blitz a bit more and the slot guys cover.

We played more zone this year vs last year.

No! We played zone because coaches always do that shite. There are five or six things coaches just have a blind spot to. I don't know why. One is playing a prevent zone when there's still time for a drive to beat you. It's foolish. Against good offenses it almost always yields a scoring opportunity. Our corners were manhandling Bama in that game as they did to opponents all year long. Chavis was keeping Bama off balance, mixing man and zone coverages and run blitzes. Then - I don't know why - he telegraphed a cover 2 zone with safeties lined up 18 yards deep. It's okay to mix that in. It's a legitimate weapon. But you can't telegraph any defense.

Because we had a very young secondary and Mo Claiborne wasn't there to shut down one receiver. You cannot expect young players to play up to the level of a Mo or PP7 right away.
