I need some analysis from our resident experts. Badgers with a lead passed more than ran. Were we stacking the box and playing man coverage tempting them to pass? Was our run D too strong for them? Was #25 hurt? Was their coach an idiot?

That seems to be the consensus on their boards. Much like here following a defeat.

After the drive with Gordon's long run that put Wisconsin up 24-7, our defense completely stonewalled their run game. When your running game suddenly isn't getting anywhere and the other team starts to move on offense and cut into the lead, you have to pass a little bit to make the run a viable option again. We were putting 8-9 guys up on the line and daring them to throw, they tried to throw, and the best secondary in the country made good on the dare.

It's not as stupid as it looked. They had to try something else because the run wasn't there anymore and we were starting to come back.

We did stack the box and run blitzed a lot after their first drive of the second half.

They probably abandoned the run too early but we did a nice job of stuffing holes on first and second down in the second half.

LSU d stepped up and stopped the long runs on first down and kept Wisky in 2nd & 3rd and long situations forcing them to pass...

They only had one drive after their opening drive in the 3rd for a score that went beyond 4 plays and that was a 8 play drive which was the only drive after their opening score that they got positive yardage on 1st and 2nd down which lead to a short 3 down try they converted...this drive ended with an INT on a 3rd and 10 play...

I think he panicked when LSU started to mount it's comeback, and also started taking away the edges.

Several of Wisky's big runs last night were on the edge. LSU took that away in the second half.

Because we gave them the pass. I'm glad they didn't execute it very well, but we started shutting their run down.

You have to take what the defense gives you; then more importantly, execute it well. Had they completed just three more passes, the game would have been different.

Along with that, you have to give our DBs a lot of credit because Chavis told them they would be alone out there as the front seven was focused on the run.

It looks like we ran a run blitz on every first down in the second half. They busted the first one to open the half for a long gainer and got 7 points. Every first down play after that we got them for no gain or a loss. They had to try and pass because we were walking up a LB and crowding the box with a safety.

Our DBs were awesome, their WRs, not so much. One lucky pass or a slip may have cost us, but it never happened.

It's not so much the fact that they threw so much that baffled me. It's that when they did run, it was with #6 and the QB more than their All-American candidate tailback Gordon who is lightning in a bottle. Dude hits the hole hard and fast.

Every college coach knows more about football and his team than any fan. So I imagine the coach had a reason. Whether or not it was the right decision is always debatable but its never bc "the coach is dumb".

Dude... Melvin Gordon went off in the 1st half and got 3 carries in the second half. And they had the lead almost the entire game. Their coach saw some life from our team and freaked out and started making dumb decisions.

Melvin Gordon is the 2nd best RB in country, right behind Gurley. He's a monster. You gotta give him more than 2-3 touches in the 2nd half with the lead.

I have no basis for this other than my opinion but I think Gordon pulled (or tweaked) his hamstring after that run to start the 2nd Half.

Yeah but don't you think their coach knows that? Don't you think he had some reason for not running Gordon more? He didn't become a Div I head coach by being totally retarded.

No... He had no reason for not giving Gordon the ball more. And if he knew it, he would have done it. Coaches make stupid mistakes just like we all do. This was a stupid mistake. Unless Gordon was injured on that 1st carry in the 2nd half where he broke off that long run,(could have tweaked a hammy or something?) their coach has no reason for not giving him more touches and trying to throw the ball all of a sudden.

Yeah he seemed gimpy when he got back up, and he ran strangely after getting into open space. It might have even been why he got caught. Regardless after that run he didn't play except a few plays, and he didn't run well when he was put back in.

As I posted earlier, I think this is what happened. Collins is fast, but Gordon was in the open field with a 6 to 7 yard cushion and Collins ran him down.

And this is prob the reason. Makes more sense than saying their coach is dumb and forgot about the existence of his star RB.
