Because Eugene is a pure safety not playing CB on the slot WR.

Hasn't Kavahra Holmes seen a little time in mop up duty?

Not according to lsusports.net participation stats. Dwayne Thomas played against Washington, Idaho, and Auburn. Derrick Raymond and Kavahra Holmes have seen no playing time.

This is why I just don't understand why Jenkins transferred. At worst he would be playing that 4th CB spot. I thought Thomas was good enough coming in to play more as a true Freshman. They can't keep putting Eugene in man coverage. He's just too stiff.

Eugene hasn't lined up a safety all season. He's strictly a nickel back

You may be thinking of freshman safety Sandolph. I think he recovered a muffed punt on special teams several games ago. Mills and Thomas are the only true freshmen CB's to get playing time.

they put safeties in for the Nickel and Dime package. The idea is that you are giving up a little bit of coverage but gaining help in stopping the run and size in covering TEs. This is pretty universal.

There are of course exceptions when you have an extremely physical CB like TM7.

i never said otherwise. Just pointing out why we have a safety playing coverage in nickel and dime packages.

Was I the only person to watch Danny McCray start for the Cowboys Sunday, and then lead the team in tackling? He actually looked very, very good. Pretty interesting to watch him go from playing for two very, very good defensive coaches in Pelini and Chavis, to being coached by a great NFL defensive coach in Rob Ryan.

don't think him leaving had anything to do with playing time.
