Who most likely could give us some quality innings between Gilbert and Hess?

Bush? Newman?

We need about 3 innings from someone.

Peterson
Bush
Newman

Someone will have to step up tomorrow. If it's 3-0 after 2 and Gilbert gets chased, we in deep shite anyway

You are going to need someone to step up and do something extraordinary. Newman or Bish or Peterson come in and hold the rope. Gilbert going 7 strong innings and giving the ball to Hess. Something like that will have to happen.

Newman scares me at the cws. He's never really impressed me and idk if he has the backbone to pitch well in that environment on that stage. He just has that timid/scared vibe about him and when one thing goes wrong he will let it affect his next pitch. Leave newman on the bench if possible. That's just me though.

Bush is never an option guy gets rattled easy and can't throw strikes

I'm expecting Gilbert to go atleast 5, possibly 6. I would hope Newman and Hess can cover the rest. Worst case is Gilbert gets chased after 2-3 innings, otherwise I think we are in solid shape.

If Gilbert can be efficient with his pitches he can't get to the 6th. They've seen him already so I'd hope he doesn't have to go through the order 3-4 times. Hopefully if bush, Peterson, Newman and Bain someone steps up. Fact is, to win tomorrow's game well have to have a stroke of luck somewhere.

This is an important point. I wouldn't be surprised if PM pulls Gilbert in the middle innings at the slightest sign of trouble even if he is having a good outing, unless he is completely shutting them down.

No, was never solid for LSU outside of a couple of starts before going under the TJ knife in 2013.

It has not just been one bad outing, he has been living on the edge for the better part of a month now.

shite, he even admitted that after the SEC tourney.

I like Bain. Good control, can pound the strike zone. Just gotta play defense behind him.

Newman should be motivated to redeem himself after his last outing. I'm thinking he might pitch well tomorrow.

Exactly; Hunter Newman is like a microcosm of LSU in that game. Out of sorts and pounded, and probably disregarded by the Beavers afterwards. That whole game was out of whack.

I can see him knowing, since Wednesday evening, that he's being counted on for 2-3 good innings in middle relief.

Probably 1 inning for Bain beforehand.

Both guys probably know they are going in on a set schedule, to start innings.
