What's this Derrick Taylor crap? What did he ever do to be mentioned in the same breathe as some of our all Americans ?

I'd say Taylor is in the top 5 or 6 point guards in LSU history. Not upper part of that list but he was a very good point.

Good list purple but Ethan would be much better paired with Pete CJ and Pete could not play together and neither played defense Ethan would give you a great defender to go along with a good ballhandler and much better passer than CJ you got to go with Ethan

My sentiments exactly on the PG for "team" chemistry. Also need to consider the level of team achievement/success and Ethan Martin helped LSU reach the Final 4. Here's my top 5 for each position:

Pete Maravich G
Chris Jackson G
Shaquille O'Neal C
Bob Petit F
Dewayne Scales F

Honorable mention for "team" chemistry and member of the Final 4 team w Ethan Martin: Dwayne DeArmond. Rest in peace my friend.

Pretty sure this was done a few years ago by SI.com. Had a starting 5 for all major college programs and put them in a tourney.

LSU lost in the finals to UNC. Our starting 5 was Pistol, Macklin, CJ, Shaq, and Pettit.

Tyrus Thomas was pretty darn good. He could have solidified his spot in this list had he stuck around Baton Rouger longer.

Disco Duane great dude! The Assembly Center (in those days) was never better than when Tigers were rolling and the Front Row Lunatics were calling for Duane! I can still hear the chants Disco! Disco! Disco!

I agree with a lot of what you're saying.

But the question comes down to is this the All-Star team or do you want the best lineup to win games? OP is "Who is on your All LSU basketball team?"

All-Star team included both Pete and CJ.

Best lineup to win games would also have both, but they'd never play together and both could be sitting at times. 4 and 5 are the easiest spots. Pettit and Shaq are no-brainers. I'd put Rudy Macklin at 3. And I agree with Ethan at 1.

So that's:
1 - Ethan
2 - Pete/CJ
3 - Macklin
4 - Pettit
5 - Shaq

I think this lineup would be be most cohesive to win games. Asking CJ+Pete to be on same floor at same time and include their teammates, I dunno. Easily I agree with some of the bench. Blanton, Hi-C, etc would definitely be on my roster.

Actually you got to have Willie Sims on the bench somewhere. He wasn't called the Supersub for nothing. His senior year he was introduced with the starting five at every home game. The best sixth man in the #10 Willie Sims!

And the Cookieman has to be their for enforcement purposes. I can just see Dale telling Cook......Greg if anyone touches Shaq or Pete I am putting you in and I want you to take them down and the Cookieman never fouled gently!!!!!

I agree with you Drizz but I take Ethan on best lineup and best all time. For example you wouldn't put Shaq,Stanley,Petit, Greg Cook and Stromile Swift for example as your all time 5 even if they were best, My assumption is poster really means best at each position. CJ and Pete were essentially the same player so I put them at the same position shooting guard as that is what they really were. Ethan is the pure point guard and as a point guard doing what you want a pg to do pass, penetrate, defend and create havoc on the defensive end and no one ever has done all of that better than Ethan!

I agree with this as well. Pete and CJ were not 1s, even if the ball flowed though them - how could it not, lol. Both were great scoring shooting guards with additional dribble and passing skills - along with being terrible defenders and shooting at will. You need someone to control that, especially with Pettit and Shaq down low along with Macklin. The only thing your 3, 4 and 5 would be doing is grabbing rebounds from missed shots with the occasional putback or feed.

I think it was stated earlier - one basketball - last thing you need with that lineup is Pete and CJ trying to out showboat the other.
