Some of this is generational, but is still learned the next generation.
Hmmm.....
For me, it's:
Football: Kevin Faulk. Not taking ANYTHING AWAY from other players.
Baseball: Eddie Furniss
Basketball: This one is tough for me. I want to say Shaq and I want to say Maravich.
I'm going to go with Shaq because I saw him play and he and I spoke shortly after I moved to Orlando. He was with the Magic at the time. Once again, not taking anything away from the Pistol. Most of his records will never be broken.
Greatest Tiger: Les Miles. Hands down. Cue the haters, I don't give a shite. The guy has coached the football team to the greatest record ever. EVER. The haters will toss in 1/9 comments but it doesn't take away the fact that he is the winningest coach in LSU football history. The first to get the football team to 13-0. No one else has done that. And we all know how tough the SEC is. The way he incorporates his parenting with his own family and his coaching with the football players into each other and then get results, greatly positive in both areas, is to be admired and envied.

If CLM continues his improvement with staff hires, by 2020 it should surprise no one he is mentioned top 10/ to 5 SEC CFB coach in history. We'll see, with the patience of time, but I'm optimistic.

A few lists that should be considered for nominees is anyone who has ever been the LSU Athlete of the Year (male and female), anyone who has ever won their sport's highest national honor (eg. Heisman Trophy, Golden Spikes, etc.) and anyone who has ever been won the SEC Athlete of the Year Award (male and female), of which there are five whom I listed earlier. Here are a few names that I haven't seen listed:

It's a joke IMO. How can Lolo Jones be on the list and not Muna Lee and Kelly Ann Baptiste? And how can Walter Davis, the 2002 SEC Athlete of the Year, not be on the list ahead of Richard Thompson? Does he know that the LSU Athletic Department nominated Davis for the SEC Athlete of the Year Award over Josh Reed?

If we're talking strictly college careers, it would seem that Seimone Augustus is the only clear-cut #1 in her sport. In football, men's basketball, women's track, men's track, baseball, softball and gymnastics, there are at least two people who can legitimately claim to be LSU's greatest in that sport. I'm not informed enogh to weigh in on tennis, golf, swimming and soccer.

Kentucky was down when Pete was at LSU and in the midst of a 20 year championship drought, mainly because Rupp was one of the last coaches in the country to integrate. Look at what UTEP did to them the year before he arrived at LSU.
And first you say Pete couldn't spell defense and then you say if he didn't make the NBA all defensive team then he didn't play defense. By that definition there were a great many players who apparently never played defense because they didn't make those all defensive teams either.
And yes I am most definitely saying that it is easier for a big man to carry a team than a guard. Ask any coach if they have to build a team and they have a choice between a great guard and a great center which are they going to choose? It will be the center every time because they are your last line of defense around the goal and rebounding is always a critical key. If they can score also that is just a little extra on top.
And last but not least teams make it far into the tourney because they play well as a team. One player does not and never will guarantee a high finish. Otherwise to use your own analogy, why did Bird and Robinson only make it into the high levels of the tournament one year and not three or four if it was only because of them?

You're the one who bragged about Pete's NBA defensive skills. Am I not allowed to rebut this?

That's a reasonable argument, but remember, Bird was a small forward, he wasn't banging down low with his back to the goal.
