Chavis fielded good units and would often created good schemes and formations for spread offense teams (Auburn in 2009-2013, Texas A&M every year, Oregon 2011, etc.). He'd also have total meltdowns and call in horrible game-changing formations (see Auburn and Miss State 2014, where we let Dak Prescott burn us after reading only 1 Lber near the line).

And his end of half meltdowns have been well criticized. In the end, you have to take the good with the bad with Chavis. He gives you more good than bad, but LSU fans had good reason to be frustrated with some of his tendencies.

How is it a misquote?

Really? Because the article insinuates Germain said that Chavis did more with less at LSU, trying to enrage LSU fans.

Germain didn't say or mean that. But whatever, be mad I guess.

Perfect summation. Chavis had his issues, and he saved his worst defense at LSU for the year we had our best offense in 2013, which is why a team with ODB, Landry, and Hill didn't win the title, but...

... give the man credit. He was terrific at stopping the spread. OK, this meant his defense couldn't stop Alabama, the big dog in the conference, but he's been largely successful against A&M and Auburn. Gus brought up his team's struggles with LSU at media day.

Chavis brought more good than bad, and I'm not comfortable with ragging him as some worthless coach on his way out of town. That said, he doesn't recruit at all, and he was blessed with some very talented units both here and in Knoxville. I don't think he's had as weak of a two-deep as he will have this season in over a decade, if ever.

Still don't get everyone's excitement about this guy. Just seems like a liability to me. He seems to attract NCAA sanctions.

He's proven he can do more with less and even more with more. He's proven he's a great coordinator over the years and he doesn't need high level players, which now we have high level players on defense.

More with less??? His numbers have dipped with the less talent he has had. What happened after all those 2009 players left? We started to fall back. He hasn't done more with shite and he doesn't recruit. Look at the pass rush and accumulated turnovers since losing the 2009 class. This year alone we were roasted by several dual threat QBs. From the freshman QB at NMST to first starting year (or first game) QBs at Wisconsin and Notre Dame, to the dual threats giants of Dak and Marshall, to even a flailing junior in Driskel.

To those QBs, we gave up 92 carries 544 yards (5.91 ypc) and 6 TDs

He may have been misquoted, but he was still VERY wrong in his assessment.

When he says more with less and more with more, he's referencing Tennessee and LSU's defensive down-years that are still solid D's.

Yep.

The interpretation of that quote in the OP requires one to be brain dead.

Yeah.

I mean when are people going to learn that the internet is about getting clicks and that if you didn't actually READ the quote, trusting what someone says the quote "meant" is borderline stupid. You might have had an excuse for falling for that 10 years ago, but now? Who doesn't know that people use click bait?
