Losing to Stony Brook had a pretty lasting affect on LSU.

Y'know, since it ended the season
it sucked losing in a super and i sure wasnt in the mood to praise SB at the time,in fact it still pains me to think of what happened...but i think the ones who were giving them their props were doing so because they were such an under dog team making a cws trip....i doubt our fans would react the same way if it were bama or ucla..at least i hope not..

Exactly. This was a team and small school most people had never heard of doing something nobody thought would ever happen, especially given LSU's perfect record in CWS deciding games at Alex Box. It's really a testament to the LSU baseball program and The Box that made it such a big deal.

If not for those fans, no victory lap, no celebration.
Uh, no. They can run around the stadium just as easily whether the fans shake their hands or boo at them. But whatever floats your boat.

the point of this is the difference between recognizing a good play or performance with applause (which I'm all for) and actually being happy for another team and helping them celebrate their victory right after a super regional loss.

Of course there is a difference between those things. but there is a difference between the things you are saying and what we are arguing.

Our point is, shaking an opponents hand after the game doesn't equal "actually being happy for another team and helping them celebrate their victory right after a super regional loss." as you said.

As with most things, you must consider context. Players and coaches shaking hands after a game do so because they have to. No one is sincerely congratulating anybody. I've played and coached in college, and if there isn't complete silence, there's shite talking. They would rather be in the clubhouse already than have to acknowledge a team that just ended their season. It's good sportsmanship but a painful thing to be forced to go through.

The victory lap was something completely different. People were cheering, laughing and patting them on the back; clambering to do this with the team that ended our season.

Complete silence, no. Shite talking, sometimes. But more often than not, its just a good game and good luck. Coaches likewise.

Whoever the old man in the glasses is in that picture should be ashamed of himself. That dude just got finished rubbing his BBC all over our season and you're patting him on the back? I hated that fricking guy, he seemed to bat 12 times every game and was always on base...

Little League, yes. The bench-warmers, maybe. You're sentimentality isn't welcome here.

It's called CLASS. It is something that low moral people don't possess.

Who is being sentimental? I am telling you the way it is today.
