Will we pitch him again for our next midweek game? Hopefully next time they let him throw that nasty curve a little more.

I think Latz will stay in the midweek role as his pitch count builds up. Our weekend starters are set but we're still looking for that 4th starter for the postseason, hopefully he can fill that role once he's back to full speed.

SEC Tournament revelation Nolan Cain wondered aloud on the radio yesterday if there was enough time to build him into a 6 inning guy and suggested he might be a LOOGY/bullpen arm the rest of the season. He was not definitive by any stretch, though.

His velocity could make him a solid closer if we need it.

I don't see him being any more than a lefty out of the pen this year. Keep his pitch count low and next year he will battle for a weekend spot.

I really hope he can build up stamina quickly. He has the stuff to be great.

If this team makes a run he could possibly be a big time guy out of the bullpen. Chad Jones didn't really pitch much for LSU in 2009 but when he did it was memorable and he was dominant in the post season.

Don't expect him to be pushed to start any games this year.

If I was in charge of his arm I would work him in 1-2 inning stints and have him develop his off speed and build arm strength during the mid-week games, maybe let him come in for an inning during an SEC blowout.

If he turn into a setup type guy from the left side coming out the pen for postseason that's a win/win in Mainieri's eyes.

He will be brought along very slowly.

How did he do the other night? I got home from work late and I turned it on in the 6th inning and it was 5-0.

1 and 1/3 3 hits 2 runs all earned and 2 strikeouts. Threw predominantly fastballs and the Mcneese hitters caught on to that pretty quick.

No way will they let him be a closer unless it's in a very limited role.

We are not winning the CWS this year. Don't have the talent. It happens. May not even host a regional. Again, it happens. But this year should be all about getting Latz ready to be the Saturday starter next year. However they think is best to handle him to get prepared for that is fine by me. But he is not the savior this year--not going to be the difference between us doing anything or not.

you have no idea what you are talking about. This team has a shite ton of talent and not a lot of experience. We aren't even halfway through SEC play. How do you know where this team is gonna finish up?

Stranger things have happened, just look at Virginia last year. But it's true that this isn't a year for high expectations, it was always seen as setting up for our next big opportunity in 2017. Latz should be a major part of that, and whatever experience he can get this year will only help.

People are confusing lack of production with lack of talent. Lange, for example, is having a down year so far but does that mean he is any less talented than he was last year? No. This years team is laying down a solid foundation for a solid next couple of seasons a lot like the '08 team did for '09. I don't expect this team to go on that kind of hot streak and ride it into the CWS but at this point in the '08 season I am willing to bet there were a couple of people thinking they weren't very talented because the season wasn't going that great before the hot streak.

Our entire pitching staff is going to need to improve if we are to make any kind of run in the NCAA's. Right now I just want us to at least get to 15-15 in SEC and make an NCAA Regional.
