I just happened to notice it last night for first time, but its probably been years. Why are they in the end now??

When I went there during the Shaq era, we had one entire side, and packed it, and caused lots more noise for opposing teams from that vantage point.

I'm sure they moved it when students quit showing up. Just curious.

Prolly due to poor student attendance in prime seating areas....might as well sell those to paying customers

Yea they chose to sell those as season tickets instead of giving them to the students who weren't showing up.

Opposite happened. They moved it to have more expensive tickets to sell. And then students stopped showing up. I was in school when this happened and it was night and day the crowds that would sit down low.

People would stand all game for good seats, not nearly as much when the seats were terrible.

Yep. Our fans (including students) are very fickle. Can't really blame them, as we've had back-to-back "good" seasons like once in the past 15-20 years. It's hard to justify alloting all of those prime seats to non-paying fans when said fans don't show up.

I do think they need to do something about moving either the band or the massive press section out of the lower section to allow more students down there. Once we have a consistent competitor on the floor, which is well on its way to happening, appropriate changes will come.

You are very wrong on this. Students were not shoeing up prior to the move. Some students would be at the very bortom, but the middle and upper sections rarely had people. Now season ticket holders have bought all those seats and pay the highest taf fees.

Yea I guess I was talking about the lower section, but it wasn't like they gave the students the middle section for the mid level.

It was low level mid court

corner sections in the mid level

behind the basket for upper.

So you are wrong that it is the highest TAF fee areas... (besides the lower mid's which were full)

This.

The students used to take up baseline to baseline all the way to the top of the 300's. There were sections upon sections of empty seats that were alloted to students. That's when in 2005 they made the small "Maravich Maniacs" section down at the bottom, center court, and moved the rest of the students to the corner and uppers. It didn't make sense for all of these prime, FREE seats to be sitting empty.

Maybe I just can't remember things right. Oh well...

Doesn't matter to me, I still think fans should be filling up the student section. I miss it.

They moved after the 09-10 season. The layout prior to the move was dumb. The first 350 students were put into a pen courtside, then the overflow was in the 200 and 300 levels.

Basketball just isnt important to high school kids in Louisiana. There is much more emphasis on football and baseball. So when kids get to LSU they dont understand the beauty of the game. I thought the student section was decent last night, but you can tell they dont understand the intricacies of the game. Seems like nobody down here loves hoops anymore. I havent found a decent pickup game in the 2 years I've lived here.

What the hell are you talking about? Students had 103 & 114 on up along with 203 and up. you have the top 3 levels of taf fees in the areas that were once student seating, plus low level taf fee sections at the top that stayed totally empty.

No doubt. Having a consistent contender will do just that, and we're well on our way. I never understood why more people didn't go to games when I was in school. There was always a group of 3 or 4 of me and my friends that would go to all the games. We sucked 4/5 years I was in school, but still... It's free basketball.

I don't understand why all these huge TAF donors that the AD is supposedly "catering to" don't demand they get rid of that foolishness and actually offer floor level seats to them, the fans.

I don't think anybody even knows where the "student section" is, and that's not going to change until there are games where those are actually the only seats available for students to sit in.

Hell, until I saw the he chart ITT I didn't know exactly where it was, and I go to more (still not many) basketball games than most people I know. I've never sat in those sections. Not even in 09.

This is not true at all. I was a student in 2009 which was the last year the section was there. I had to show 45-1 hour early in order to get a spot there. For half the games, I had to sit in the 300s because the main section was full.

Truth. That year was awesome and the student section was packed. The '09 game against Xavier is still one of my all time favorite LSU sporting events even though we lost.
