Was it before or after Herman and Fisher were out of the picture?

We didn't want him. Well, most of us who know football at least.

Alleva settled for him. He couldn't man up and negotiate so he settled.

Coach O is like the Donald Trump of college football.

I love that man no matter what he does!

It's not that every intelligent sports fan loves O. It's that the new GM model is very appealing. Have a figure head that makes $2-3M that stays out of the play calling and hire the very best OC and DC in the game.

Most programs pay the premium of a HC with either OC or DC background. This usually means you have to pay him $5-6M/yr. ... and you have to pay his OC/DC understudy.

I don't know if CEO was a good hire or a bad one. Time will tell. I don't believe he was a significant upgrade, but I'm willing to at least wait and see what happens.

None of which takes away from the fact that Alleva really shite the bed on this one. With a two-month jump on a coaching search, not having a list longer than two candidates + your interim is absolutely unforgivable.

The audacity of those schools to hire a HC with at least some experience calling plays and running one side of the ball.... It's almost like those schools value experience game planning, and coaching one side of the ball before turning over an entire program to a coach.

Except O makes 3.5 million.

Add that to Miles' salary and we are paying our HC position 8 million a year. Add in Aranda and Canada and our staff had better perform like they are being paid.

Herman didn't want to be here, and we all knew that Jimbo wasn't going to leave an already successful and highly regarded program.

I love Coach O and I am not a fan of Alleva, but our fan base once again handcuffed him. He was almost forced to hire coach O because our fans pretty openly campaigned to have him hired permanently. Just like they did after the A&M game two years ago that handcuffed him to keeping Les around for another year.

Ok, so let's just say none of us know football.

Just looking at records and accomplishments, would O be a good hire to you?

The original question remains unanswered....

A large segment of the fanbase decided they wanted him after the Mizzou game. They said he should be hired if he went undefeated. Then after the bama loss, they said, "no one beats Bama". Then after the florida loss they said "that was on the players, not O's fault".

There was nothing that man could do to lose their support.

Some jumped on after Herman and Jimbo didnt work out, but that was a much smaller group.

The rest of us never bought in.

Nobody wanted O. We were forced to settle with Alleva did, for better or worse. If this fails I can't wait to see Fking and Alleva outta here

I can remember quite a few on this board being deranged thinking that O should have been picked OVER Fisher or Herman.

Our AD got left with his dick in his hand because he never had a plan b after Fisher/Herman. That is the only reason we ended up with O as the head coach.

I like what O has done as far as the coaching staff is concerned, but those who think he is a better coach than Herman or Fisher are just slap shite stupid.
