I think it was more of a precautionary thing he could have played Saturday but we did not need him. We were better served to rest him and let the back-up guys get more work.

I think Miles was looking for any excuse to play Magee. He loves the guy and now has a reason for whichever dumb reporter will ask him about burning a redshirt.

Apparently it was minor enough that he could have come back into the game in the 2nd half if need be.

Miles probably felt that this was as close to a good practice scrimmage (with the bonus of real time game planning) and therefore decided to try out a bunch of different plays/players.
