It's not close, Billy Cannon's 89 Yard Punt Return Halloween Night 1959, against Ole Miss

What a lot of LSU fans either forget or are too young to know, Cannon that night, as did all the offense, played both ways & only had a few plays off the entire game. Dietzel always claimed that what made that run so special to him was that the humidity was sky high that nite, Cannon was taking air on the sidelines the few times he sat down & Cannon was exhausted. Too, Cannon, Rabb, and Robinson were all in on the goal line stand, from 1st & goal to 4th & goal, the one yard line & made the last tackle to win the game. The Blue Grass Miracle was exciting as hell but was basically a fluke, a tipped ball. Cannon's run was all Billy Cannon.

I have no reason why BUT I always thought the game winning TD JaMarcus threw at Arizona State was pretty darn famous. That game was moved to ASU for Katrina reasons and it was Les' first game trying to revive a state that was just shredded. Final play of the game in the extreme corner of the end zone for the WIN! Gotta give this one some love.

Maybe you were closer to ground level. I was high up in the dome and you could easily see what looked almost like a fog over the field. Don't think it was humid? How many players cramped up during that game? It was almost every play. If you didn't notice it I'm sorry, no need to be an a-hole.

Billy Cannon's punt return easily over a distant number two; the Warren Morris home run.

Did your stepdad have to admit that LSU was the better team after the championship beatdown?

I'll bet the house that more people know about Billy Cannon's run than any other moment in the history of LSU football.

I haven't seen anyone else post this but in my opinion the most meaningful and therefore the best play in Tiger history was the Matt Mauck to Skyler Green TD pass to win the UGA game in 2003.

Without that play we don't get a shot at the national championship game, Georgia or USC would have played Oklahoma, most likely USC.

UGA wouldnt have because we wouldve beaten UGA in seccg but that play did keep us in the NCG picture.

For sure. There was no denying it after that arse whooping. He got his revenge in 05 though. I told him if it weren't for Katrina we wouldve been rested and won in 05 too.

Thanks goodness there was no instant replay back then. That wasn't a catch. After everything this state went through, I'll take it.

Exactly. I could tell that LSU was exhausted by the Arkansas game in 05. I agree with at least one weeks rest that game would have been different.

If I remember right, it was 4th down and 20 when Russell threw a 30 yard TD pass.

I have to go with the Billy Cannon run, followed by the Hodson-to-Fuller Earthquake Game TD pass.

11 straight games, while playing in the sec, will take its toll on any team regardless of the talent level.

If you're talking LSU fans, you might make the case for Morris' HR or the Bluegrass miracle. But outside of LSU fans, I'd say it's still Cannon's run, personally I think it's that regardless.

11/20/71 you can pick one of four. Goal line stand against Notre Dame.
