The only thing I noticed were the DBs playing up - almost on the line of scrimmage.

Against GA and the first half against State, the DBs and safeties were 10 yards off the ball and were getting shredded.

Was it that simple?

I also noticed we were penetrating their o-line a little more. We finally run a little delay blitz with Barrow and what happened? A sack for a 7 yard loss. Chief will bring them around, he's just working with a bunch of green players!

We put in different players early in that game.

Things started to click, but a lot of work to do.

Welter is a steaming turd. Doesn't attack, can't tackle.

Barrow is a missile, if on target great, if not

Ok, was the penetration due to tighter coverage?

I mean - these guys might get burned twice a game playing tight - but the trade off is getting carved up the entire game playing deep - running bad angles.

Maybe they just let these kids man up with their athleticism since the skill isn't quite there yet.

We still had blown coverage,on white INT there reciever was wide open. There QB'S could not throw it in the ocean.

Hopefully chief settles on this back 7. It seemed to be the most effective:

SLB - Barrow
WLB - Kwon
CB - Tre White
CB - Robinson
Slot CB - Mills
SS - Thompson
FS - Martin

Louis rotated in there some as well and did fairly well.

ETA: Kwon still needs to be on the field every down. Even Matt Millen recognized that he's a play maker.

White was the one that blew the coverage. He vacated his zone when following the WR on the over top route and got lucky it was an overthrow.

I know one thing: They put Robinson in on Nickle packages and moved Mills over the Davone Bess look a like.

They did it once in the first half, and tried Eugene at the beginning of the second before finally switching to it permanently on passing situations.

Just my opinion, but no one is going to burn these guys consistently. By that, I mean beat athletically. We just have been f'ng up a lot and guys are running wide open due to mistakes. Our kids are pretty close to athletic as we always have. The experience and the technique is where we just are not there yet. Hopefully we keep improving, because the first half last night was honestly an embarrassment. Just like the entire UGA game was on defense. Everyone knows we will improve from where we are now, its just a question of how much and how fast that is going to happen.

D seemed less confused. They moved quicker and more decisive. Tackling improved but still missed too many.

Barrow has not earned the right to keep his starting job. Maybe losing it will inspire him some.

Would like to see Ronald Martin get more playing time. His pass break up was a thing of beauty.

Definitely needs to improve on locating the ball while it is in the air. He was in perfect position to get a pick on one of Miss St's TDs in the first half, but actually jumped past the play before the ball arrived. Allowed the ball to just fall right into the receiver's hands uncontested.

If you are talking about the one I think you are, almost any College level QB would have completed that for a TD. We were just lucky it was MSU and Prescott lofted that up with about as much zip on it as your average rant poster. lol

I don't think that was as much blown coverage as them finding the gap in the zone...LSU has largely made it's living off doing that this year in the passing game.

They seemed to tackle much better in the second half. I couldn't understand the missed tackles on States runners in the first half....Chavis must have lit someone up during the halftime, IMO.
