What program does LSU make more money from, gymnastics or men's basketball?

Genuinely curious. The only way I can imagine it's basketball at this point is if the TV contracts inked by the SEC just spill over so much extra revenue that it offsets the fact that gymnastics may bring in more at box office.

This is one of the dumbest questions ever asked. Men's basketball and it's not even close.

The most recent numbers are from last year but in 2015-16 basketball made $2.35MM while gymnastics lost $2.09MM.
That is actually pretty close lol

Basketball tickets cost like 3-4 times more and there's twice as many home basketball games.

You call being off by 4 million dollars close?

Mens basketball has a ton more games while LSU only has 5-6 home meets a year. Also, mens basketball gets much better coverage so I am sure LSU pulls in big bucks. Gymnastics is relegated to SEC Network or other streaming services through ESPN. I don't think they are getting many bucks from that. Gymnastics kills basketball in attendance per event, no question, but it isn't set up to make the kind of money that basketball is.

It's real amazing how because a non revenue sport is a winning product, it can cause some in this fanbase to be retarded.

Aren't there many free gymnastics tickets?

They used to give free tickets to one meet but I don't know if they still do that. And it was sponsored by someone, I think Albertsons did it one year. So no, they are not just giving away tickets to fill seats. They sell so many season tickets that there are not nearly as many to give away.

If it were a government project

It's actually not close at all lol. OP asked which brings in more. Basketball brings in a profit at least and gymnastics lost money lol.

Your question is awful. Men's ball has season ticket holders even if they don't show up because we suck.

I misread, thought it said they made that not lost it.

I am very interested to see the numbers on Men's basketball for this season. Considering they made a $2 million dollar profit last year.

So close.

So if LSU made 2.35M on men's basketball while being the absolute worst, why pay the HC $1.5M a year?
LSU could improve profits 50% by paying a high school-level coach $100K year, and we wouldn't be much worse on the court.
