I know you want your ILB around 250.

What about OLBs? They have to be big enough to take on OTs and TEs, yet small/fast enough to drop back in coverage.

Do we have the right sized guys? We drop our DEs to OLBs and move DTs over to DEs. Does White start right away next to Beckwith?

How do you see this working?

(I can do the math myself. I just want to hear what others think).

We will be fine with size, especially now that Divinity is up to 240 and Alexander has gained some more weight. Problem is depth and experience

ILB dont need to be that big. height factors in to. Its more about body type, imo

Depends on scheme. Bama seems to have 260lb LBs every year across the board

3-4 ILBs are basically both 4-3 ILBs and OLBs. 3-4 OLBs are basically 4-3 DE pass rushers( Key, Neal, etc). 3-4 DE are 4-3 DTs. 3-4 DT are big space eaters. 330+ lbs guys.

If they aren't all 6'5+, 275+, and run sub 4.5s -- then we are screwed.

Ideally, you want someone 6'3 or 6'4 and in the 240 range with really good feet. Von Miller is the prototype these days.

Your just getting guys like Arden Key standing up at more of an OLB role. You keep Herron, Bain, Loc, Clark, and Godchaux with their hands in the dirt. A true Nose Gaurd is all we really lack. I don't get all those saying we don't have the personnel, especially with Devin White now backing up Beckwith

Like Lester said you have to factor in height.

6' 240-245 is pretty solid. Anything past that and they'll probably be carrying more weight than they are made for and it could make them sluggish. (White doesn't count he's a freak)

While 6'3" 240 is pretty lean for a 3-4 ILB at that height someone could pack on 15-20 pounds and probably not be too sluggish.

You want to be as big as you can without losing speed and that's all it comes down to. The taller you are the more weight you can carry and still be efficient.

I know it's not true...It just feels like we're wasting some of our DL talent when we will finally have an experienced line that could hurt people. So now the guys that are to big to play lber, will rotate in to sit there and take on blockers.

Any chance we still use a 4 man front??? Nickle??

If we are running a 1-gap 3-4 like Denver runs (the scheme Aranda employed at Wisconsin) then it is an attacking scheme which allows the d-line to penetrate into the backfield and wreak havoc. This is in contrast to Bama's scheme, which requires the d-linemen to be responsible for 2 gaps and forces them to take on blockers to free up the LBers.
