the tight end had not scored since 2013....

Some games are just that way.. The most unlikely folks get the main plays for the win.

What i gathered from the Clemson Vs Gumps game
1. Clemson's special teams coach should be fired.
2. Lane Kiffin outsmarted Venables with use of the TE.

They obviously saw something with the TE and exploited it. Hats off to Kiffen for that

I was amazed how disciplined both teams were. No stupid penalties, no panic rash decisions, and both teams kept their composure while losing. The penalties that were called, at least the pass interference calls, were very good decisions by the defense.... touchdown saving penalties. I love LSU and love Purple and Gold.... I just with we were as disciplined as these two teams. The prepared great for the game.

What i gathered from the Clemson Vs Gumps game
How truly bad Jordan Jefferson played 1/9/2012. He could not make pre-snap reads, he couldn't execute the plays that were called, and he couldn't extend plays when opportunities presented themselves. But this just reconfirmed observations from other games Alabama played against decent QBs with decent mobility. It gives hope that Brandon Harris can lead LSU to victory against Alabama because Alabama is not invincible. In fact they are vulnerable to QBs who can avoid the pass rush and extend plays.

Another thing I gathered is how well you have to execute to beat Alabama. You can't waste opportunities because Alabama doesn't make mistakes too often, and they tend to capitalize on opponents' mistakes. This gives me doubts about Brandon Harris because accuracy as a passer is essential to the sort of execution needed to beat Alabama.

Finally, you have to make impact plays on offense against Alabama. You are not going to just grind them down. They are too good and too deep to overpower, and they are going to be taking their shots offensively. So you have to match them with some impact plays while limiting their impact plays.

Who won?

Who actually competed against them? Fixed it for ya.

LSU sure didn't. Who has won 5 in a row over LSU? Alabama? LSU hasn't competed 3 of the last 5 games against Bama.

Scheme can actually do that, contrary to popular belief on this board.

I didnt see any misdirection/counter plays really work against Bama all year

Then you weren't watching the game close enough or you don't know football. Clemson ripped off a few nice runs last night on counter buck and QB counter buck. Clemson also had a nice run 10+ yards last night on a stretch opposite play.

Their TE has caught crucial passes in every big win. He may not score touchdowns but he keeps the drives going. Howard (TE) had 38 receptions with a 16 yard average.

My key observation is that Clemson can't cover a tight end, OJ Howard, to save their freaking lives. That dude had more busted coverages on him than anybody else.

I sure wish LSU could go back to throwing to the tight ends like they did in the past. We need to develop BH or whoever it may be to be able to throw short yardage passes while also being mobile. The passes to the perimeter and quick 8-15 yard pass routes are a major thing we need to work on. I think if BH can spend time with somebody to work on his footwork throwing the ball it would help tremendously. Also the wheel routes that reinfroe ran with the outside receiver crashing in to allow reinfroe to get a little momentum passed the corner was excellent play calling.

Who are we kidding here? I'm not in support of the lsu scheme, Clemson scheme, or whatever.

At the end of the day, Clemson played their hearts out. Watson had a Heisman performance. Yet, they still loss by 5 and with a meaningless touchdown to make it look better.

Yet, you guys are talking about moral victories. LSU has lost by 5 or less to bama more often than not and it hasn't been good enough. You either beat them or you don't.

We don't have a Watson. It wasn't scheme. Just about every major play made by Clemson in that game was Watson creating. Not the actual play call. when a conventional play was run, it was stopped. Watson's ability to extend the play, create with his feet and throw on the run was what made them effective on offense. It's why we have been recruiting dual threat qbs. However, Watson, Johnny M, cam newton, etc don't grow on trees. They are/were GREAT, QB'S.

The fact Clemson had a guy abusing #76 was a big factor as well. Bama couldn't control the ball like they wanted because 76 could not block his man.

You can talk scheme all you want. The fact is Watson and Dodd were playmakers last night. That is two type of players lsu didn't have. They beat their man and others consistently. It was more of Clemson having better personnel to compete with bama. Try and compare neal and harris to those two guys. It's not even a comparison.

Clemson would of won the game if #2 McKenzie Alexander wouldn't of gotten injured. After he left the game there were obvious breakdowns in coverage.

A quote like this is how I know you're ignorant. You obviously don't know football. If you actually think this then you fail with your knowledge of football. Clemson went up and down the field with the conventional play that was sprinkled in with the QB making plays. But guess what? That's called football to and you have to defend it as well. That's what makes defending a spread offense with an athletic QB that can run and throw so dangerous and a headache for defensive coaches. This is the reason why LSU can't compete against Alabama. Jesus people that post on here are so stupid. Look at every team that has beat Alabama in recent memory? What do all those teams have in common? I'll let you figure it out.

I watched the entire game and only saw 2 or 3 designed runs go for more than 4 yards.

Gallman 14/45 Long of 34. So their starting RB had 11 yards of rushing outside of one explosion (Which was on an outside zone play) and not on a counter or misdirection.

I'm pretty sure they didnt run a "counter buck" or anything like what you see on NCAA 13.
