Just watched highlights of jarvis and we ran a bunch of intermediate slants, now we practically never run it

harris had some trouble and receivers wouldn't catch them and they'd get picked off

So.. just never even attempt to run it again?

Can we not improve? Seems like others run the slant pretty well..

Do you understand football at all. Quick slants + innacurate qb = picks/pick six

That simple....which obviously severely limits playing field.

Better answer.

I still think we need a new mindset at the QB position of confidence and belief.

Coaches were afraid Harris would maim all our receivers with high throws

That requires Harris to throw the ball over the middle which Les doesn't trust him to do.

Which is why we never throw to the tight end.

because we don't have Jarvis Landryand Mett anymore.

Harris is non good at those passes, hopefully he works on them in the off season

There is a video of practice where we couldn't complete slant pass against air so couch cam said we are gonna run a 1950 offense.

Players can't execute the plays so the coaches don't even try much in the games.

I feel the other reason is he throws a hard ball. He can't seem to put touch on the ball for the short, and intermediate routes.

The intermediate passing game is almost non existent in a Cam Cameron offense. Even in 2013 with Jarvis and OBJ and Mett. A lot of those were digs or posts across the middle where the pass had to go 12-15 yards or so.

Say what you want about Harris, but the passing scheme didn't really help him out too much. Very few easy throws and easy yards out there. The short pass play that we ran the most was an out route to the wide side of the field, 1 of the hardest throws to make in football. Ball has to travel 18yards across the field to pick up a modest gain. And that was a go to "short" passing play for us.

Have very few easy throws for easy yards. We need to get the WRs in tighter and run more slants, hitches, rubs, etc. Some west coast schemes. Get some easy throws in there, even if the play goes for just a few yards. I get why we want to throw the ball vertically, our personnel fits that at the QB and WR position. But when that's not working, you gotta had some of that west coast passing plays in there the keep the chains moving, build confidence, keep the defense guessing, etc.

But Pick 6's.... It's ridiculous the lack of faith Miles and Co have in our quarterbacks. How can you expect development and growth if you shelter them and limit their passing tree?

I still cannot get over our run to pass ratio. It was displayed at 66-33 at one point this season. So not only are we running low efficiency pass plays, but we are statistically only running one pass play per two rushing plays. That's insane. No quarterback will can consistently grow in that system.

Harris completed 3 or 4 in 2nd half vs Arky until they adjusted and took it away. I recall it well as I was yelling run sluggo when Arky bit on slant.

in 2008 les appointed his two barbecue buddies as co-DC

this left LSU chasing games with a RS FROSH qb who was forced to throw throw throw and wound up throwing a few to many to the other team over the middle

it came up huge with lee to toliver against UF in 2010 doe

The slant/bubble screen combo we use to run with Jimbo annoyed me, but our bubble screen/WR screen was on point. We were so good at that shite.

I remember one of the practice videos in the offseason of them working on it. They couldn't complete anything and Cam got so pissed. He started yelling at them that they would work on nothing else until they got this slant route down, and if that meant they got all the way to the season and could only throw slants, then that's what they would do in the game. I guess he caved on that
