I talked to a former college player I used to work with (not LSU, and not a name anyone would recognize, just a dude who played for a small school)...

And I mentioned to him how bad LSU's special teams have been, and how it's odd that improvements have not happened during the season.

His thoughts: 98% of special teams work is done in the Spring/Summer, if you don't have it locked up by the time the season starts, you are shite out of luck. If you are a starter, the 20hr rule means you have just enough time to prepare in your starting role week to week, there just isn't enough time mid-season to un-frick bad special teams play.

This got me to thinking.

I'm not sure if this is just bullshite or a really valid point.

I have heard this same thing but I am also not sure if it is true. Kicking just seems like confidence and technique and returning seems like it can be practiced.

Surely there's a reason Miles got pissed and started ordering different kicks. I think BDP will be job hunting soon.

I was referencing more blocking and coverage vs. kick technique.

Still trying to figure out how we forgot how to block gunners on the KO Return team over the two week break.

Yeah, makes perfect sense. Can we just forfeit the rest of the games?

But adjustments and fine tuning to your ST shouldn't come after the season.

Speaking of BDP, has anyone else noticed that whenever there is a camera shot of Les on the sideline, BDP always seems to be right next to him, either talking to him or just all up in his space? Just kinda struck me as being odd.

It is NOT fricking hard to run full speed, stay in your lane, come under control, and make a fricking tackle.

Or

To find a man and block that man instead of letting him run by you and knock the living frick out of your ball carrier.

It take a a little discipline and a lot of pride.

That ole bdp. While the dline was gassed, bdp was reminding miles how good of a guy he was for keeping a scholarship open for Mickey Johnson.

After he quit, then rejoined, then quit again. Sounds like bdp' career path.

If theory that ST is only focused on during spring/summer and that only minor accommodations are made in season holds true, why in the hell have a full time coach dedicated to that task?

If only we'd had a bye week to work things out.

I could fix most of it in 2 seconds.

I noticed he always does this scowl thing. Like 'uh oh.. they fricked up again. Better put on my coaching face so I look like I'm doing my job.'

I don't like to bash the guy. The product quality has just dropped so sharply. I hear he's great in recruiting, but damn. Our poor blocking is killing us.

Well explain how Bama's special teams has been as bad if not worse than LSU's all year and then they are decapitating our kick returners at the 10 yard line?

Maybe LSU just doesn't have the player who can do it? It's unbelievable...

Correct. Special teams isn't worked on during the season or not very much. Gotta have the right players or it won't work.
