"It was second-and-5, with under a minute to go, and Charles is a big, power back," Jefferson said. "I recommended we run it. I didn't want to pass the ball in that situation and throw a pick that would keep us from getting points."

Is this managing the game or is this attitude what is holding the offense back? Just curious as to how everyone would interpret this.

After looking at the play UGA was clearly thinking PASS PASS PASS. The kid is smart and knew exactly what to do. If Crowton lets him pick his own play like that then Crowton's either really stupid or he has ALOT of confidence in his QB's decisions.

He was giving props to both Jasper and Scott. He knew that Scott could hold onto the ball, and that Jasper could nail it from that distance. We only needed the FG.

He was managing the ball and thus the game. Hats off to the young man.

I saw this on ESPN, I kinda was a little disappointed by it. Who wants to hear their starting QB saying he doesn't want the ball in his hands, with the game on the line, because he is worried he might throw a pick. I like JJ & I think he is doing some good things but that statement makes me doubt his "moxy" a little. Hey, maybe he is a fortune teller & saw the future, Scott busting it for 32 yrds & a TD. Ok, I'll take a QB who can see the future over one with moxy....TIGERS WIN TIGER WIN TIGERS WIN!!!

Okay, well I apologize if previously posted, but I am in a hotel room in Atlanta and haven't been on the computer all day or morning, am slightly disoriented after 17 hours of drinking, and failed to search.

He realizes that he has a long way to go. He has to improve his game a lot more. So what's wrong with saying that he wants the SR (and captain of the offense) to tote the rock with the game on the line. This has nothing to do with him not believing in his ability. JJ made plenty of big throws yesterday.

At first glance, it could be read as a negative but if your know football, what he said was dead on and had nothing to with the players or his abilities. It was a smart coach style call.

You only need a FG to win. Dont throw the ball and give the defense a chance to pick it off, no matter who the qb is.

Very impressive actually. Good job JJ.

Its called the qb is in the game and has a feel for what defense is doing and all qb's do this.

I think what happened JL last year has effected the team's mindset this year.. "don't let that happen ever again" type of thing...I don't know

I think JJ is having a hard time finding the 2nd and 3rd option, and some plays are taking too long to develop..

JJ running the option doesn't look very pretty at all...he needs take better angles, and let shep run it

Does this mean that it has been Jefferson holding Crowton back?

I think this quote shows a ton of maturity. Reason being, we were already in field goal range so what's a pass going to do? Also, he is right, passing in that situation isn't smart I know that's how we beat auburn a few years ago, but that won't work every time. To me, that's a very intelligent decision by a very intelligent guy who knew that Scott rarely fumbles and would get us a few more yards. Plus, that defense had sacked him 6 times in the 2 nd half and a sack at that point would have really put us in a bind.

Good strategy, but I admit, I was scared to death at the thought of trying a field goal with the prospect of AJ Green lining up in the middle of the field and jumping up to block it.
