What do you make of the Russell Gage situation?

According to Dellenger:
This was very interesting to me. How can someone go from not playing in hardly any games for 2 years, to being on the field 40% of the plays in one week? Not complaining, just genuinely perplexed by this.
Anyone have more info on the situation or have an idea as to what happened?

Russell Gage played in 3 gms in his first 2 yrs at #LSU, didnt play vs. UW & Saturday played on 40% (25) of Tigers' snaps first 3 quarters

I trust this coaching staff under the direction of Coach O. Obviously the kid earned the playing time.

I didn't even know he had been moved to WR.

This just tells me just how stubborn LM was. He undoubtedly had his favorites and it certainly doesn't seem like the best player always got the time they deserved.

You can't hold a Redemptorist grad down

He works his arse off and will do anything to get on the field. It's obvious that the coaching staff felt that he was ready to play. Dude was blocking very well out there. I've always been a Gage fan.

From Dellenger's article.
"His emergence is an obvious sign of a disagreement in personnel between the Tigers’ former offensive coordinator and its current offensive coordinator."
“Crazy athletic over there on the practice field,” receiver D.J. Chark said. “If you could see the things that happen behind closed doors, you wouldn’t even be surprised. I’m just so proud of him that he’s finally able to get his chance.”

TDcline, you are correct...I'm happier each day that passes...and glad Coach O seems to be so focused and in the zone that he needs to be...jmho

new lease on life under the new regime

I was excited to see more new faces getting valuable playing time.... nothing beats experience early in your career.... I'm sure these young players work their asses off in practice to earn playing time... glad we finally might have the right coaching staff that recognizes this....

Gage has to prove he's the better player though. I didn't see that last night.

Seems like he has good straight away speed. Good for stretching the field. But if you don't have interest in that, then his value as a player is not as high.

Obviously Chark is the fastest guy on our offense, but Gage seemed to fly also. Almost caught up to that deep ball, one more step and he's there.
Wonder how his speed stands up to Dural/Chark/Davis?

Under the old regime, I was was surprised he was still around. He moved from CB to WR but am still surprised he played and especially in front of Dee, Drake, and Dillon. He still hasn't done anything really but time will tell. Good luck to you Russell.

He was open a bunch. Kind of small, but I have no issue with it.

This program is loaded with talent. Guys are literally sitting on the bench waiting... When you recruit so much talent, I like to see a system in place where they all get an opportunity. We dont recruit guys who cant contribute.

Go look at Guice'a first TD run. Gage held his down field block long enough to move the last remaining Mizzo Tiger out of the play.

Dude was undersized physically when he first arrived to college, DB meeting room was already full of rangy, tall, fast, athletic guys but that didn't matter. The guy has the fire, that's why he was on the field! First guy down on kick coverage, might not make the tackle but he's sabotaging the return and pushing it in a specific direction. Not to mention, when is the last time you've seen a WR lay out for a ball like that. The dude is all heart, full of effort!
However, I suspect we targeted him so much as a deep threat so it would be on tape for the upcoming week. I think we'll see quite a rotation and week to week changes with the depth we have at WR. Especially if we are able to run 60-80 plays a game.
