What did Ben McDonald tell the umpire?

During tonight's broadcast Ben McDonald started telling a story about an argument he once had with an umpire but he had to stop because the inning was coming to an end. He promised to tell it the next inning but I never did hear it. He made a smartass comment to the umpire but the umpire did not kick him out because the line was so funny. Ben seemed to be very proud of this line, claiming that it was one of the greatest comments to an umpire of all time. Does anyone know the story? Thanks

He said he intentionally dropped his cell phone. Blue picked it up and gave it to him. He told the ump, "phone says 5 missed calls, it must be yours". Something like that.

It was something like the ump was messing with him about him (McDonald) leaving his cell phone out on the grass.
McDonald then told the ump, "It's not mine. Look at it. There are 5 missed calls." As in the ump was missing calls during the game.
It was something like that. Made me giggle.
Dang it, Ffishstick!

I think he said he was coaching girls softball.
Probably his daughter.

Thanks. That was a good line. Girls softball? That's OK. I was wondering what he was doing with a cell phone on the field. Remember how much trouble Joe Horn got in to for using a cell phone as a prop?

The cell phone made Joe Horn.

Coach Bertman used that line many years ago, he told the story at the annual Baseball Banquet meeting a few years ago.

Yep, he recycled Skip whose deadpan humor cracks me up.

Couldnt have been that many years ago. Cell phones were just coming around when bertman was coaching

The funniest part of the story, to me, is a #1 pick in the MLB draft chirping at a kid's softball ump.

Another of Skip's lines he's told several times over the yrs, recycled from a MLB mgr years ago: After bitching & complaining all game long over balls & strikes, Skip received a final warning, shut up or get tossed. So Skip limps out of the dugout, face to face with the ump, gets serious looking, asks the ump: can I be tossed for thinking something? Ump says no. Skip says "good, then I think you stink". Tossed.

Starkville is the Indian name for trailer park was one of his better ones.

Skip said when he made hotel reservations in Starkville, always made sure got a room without a view. Hilarious.

That line has been used for a long time. My high school coach told us back in the early 90s that a coaching friend of his (not SB) used that one years ago. His version is asking the ump "If I call you an a-hole, you'll probably throw me out the game". Ump says yes. "But if I just think you're an a-hole, then you can't really do me anything, right?" Ump says, I guess not. "Well then, I think you're an a-hole!"
