This is about the fact that all year long college teams are built around 3 weekend starters and when we got to the CWS finals we were not only deprived of a matchup between 2 first rounders but also the entire weekend rotation matchups

The format is designed to penalize you for losing during the CWS.

I have no problem with that.

The team that runs the table to get to the finals SHOULD have an advantage.

The format is fine, we lost because of one coaching blunder, a few mental mistakes and an inability to adjust at the plate. The pitching lined up for a Game 1 ad for Florida and Games 2 & 3 for us, we just didnt take advantage.

I agree. Its not like it was 10-9 heading into the 8th. It was 2-1 for crying out loud. Any less and people would be screaming they've taken all the fun out of college baseball.

In an ideal world, the championship series would be the Friday, Saturday and Sunday after the semi finals. Get a week's worth of rest and hype.

But people took off of work for Omaha. Asking them to take two weeks off would be too much. Not to mention another week at a hotel.

And don't say moving the championship series to the weekend... fans aren't staying in Omaha for 2 weeks.

It would suck for LSU fans that travel and stay for the entire tournament, but I don't think most people do that even in the current format. You have plenty of people that travel just for the championship series, or just for the opening weekend.

It's not like TD Ameritrade wouldn't sell out with a week off before a Friday, Saturday, Sunday championship series. The NCAA doesn't care about what's best for LSU fans. As long as there's asses in the seats and eyes on the TV they are happy. A week off and a Friday Saturday Sunday championship series probably gives them more TV viewers than the current format and they would still sell out tickets at the park.

You could easily squeeze in 3 games a day in the early stages just like they do in regional play. After that have a 2 day rest before the championship series starts.

You can't play 3 games in a day without messing up the brackets by splitting teams in the same bracket. It's either 2 games a day or 4, and 4 isn't feasible.

I realize Monday-Wednesday isn't optimal, waiting until the following weekend rests players, but it kills momentum. In my estimation the early week games give the CWS some advantage over MLB or evens out the competition for TV viewers.

Why not push back one more night? Start on Tuesday? It's long enough to rest pitchers, yet still close enough to the weekend to keep the excitement going.

make it single elimination at each stage. Reduce the number of games. This is too taxing on everyone involved...including the fans

What do you want? A best out of 7 series?

The issue is why did they change the direction the park faces from old Rosenblatt vs. TD Ameritrade. Rosenblatt faced Northeast from home plate to Centerfield. TD faces southeast. Big difference in wind direction. TD played fine up until last night but weather was different this year than in past. More HRs are better for the game. Last night when a CF can play almost on edge of infield grass, that is not baseball.

I wouldn't say that's the solution either, but I doubt this has anything to do with the reason. Sure, they would lose some fans during the week; but they would get a lot more than can take of Friday and make the weekend series than can take off an entire week. Plus, the NCAA/ESPN get most of their revenue from TV rights & advertisement. Not from attendance and gameday sales.

In a championship series you want to see the best of what each team has. Not some reliever whose started less then 3 games. It's crazy that we didn't get to see Lange or Faedo pitch in the championship series.

Simple. Don't lose and both staffs are set for the championship series. That's why the loser's bracket is so hard to overcome.

Go back to the original 8-team double elimination tournament. No brackets. No championship series. Done by Sunday.

They had TD Ameritrade face southeast because they wanted the fans (and the TV cameras) to have a view of downtown Omaha. That's it. They could minimize the wind problem by building something in the outfield--the Texas Rangers solved as similar problem at their old park with a wraparound scoreboard, and eliminated it from the get go in their current park with an office building--but that would obscure the view, so it probably won't happen.

Couldn't agree more with what the OP is stating.

It's not that the format is unfair, it's that it shapes the finals in a different way.

Then they should've won 3-0 in their bracket.

That's a poor answer. Suppose one bracket has Oregon St. in it and the other one doesn't?

They went to the three game series because they were tired of seeing teams completely gassed by Saturday and throwing their 4th and 5th starters in the champ game.

What this format does is really, really make it important to go 3-0 during the week. That, and not have a starter get hurt.

If we did that:

Sat - Throw Lange/Poche

Mon - Throw Walker

Fri - Throw Lange/Poche

Mon - Throw Walker

Tues - Throw Lange/Poche (whoever didn't throw Fri)

Wed if necessary - You have Gilbert completely fresh and whoever threw Fri avail on short rest to give a couple of innings.

When you lose a game, it really hurts. When you also lose a starting pitcher to injury, it gets even worse.

We should have all prayed for massive rain in Omaha on Monday =)
