Does it matter one way or another to the criticism of Les Miles if Clemson makes or misses its game-ending field goal?

In other words, is "but we won, didn't we?", as we often see with Mr. Miles, an always valid excuse for a coaching performance?

At the end of the day winning is all that matters, it doesn't matter how you got the win

Winning is the end goal, but it's not simply winning one game, it's winning many games consistently over a long period of time. If an individual game is won, but won in a fashion that reveals glaring flaws in the team which may prevent future victory, then the criticism is valid and whether or not the Clemson kicker hits or misses is irrelevant.

For one time in my life I agree with the idea of what you are saying. Even if he misses that FG, the problems are still pretty glaring to me.

That approach is what leads to losses though

The process is important and influences the end result

That is what happened the other night. LSU lost to an inferior team.

Absolutely. Clemson misses the FG, the Miles apologists can still have more of an argument to rationalize his win/loss record.

Clemson makes the FG, and there really is no way to defend him.

It doesn't change the problem we have. Which is an under performing Offense.

In honesty thou not as many ranters would be upset. Also those that think that Les is doing a good job with the Offense would say--Hey we are winning the games what more do you want Les to do.

how dare you pay attention to the process. only look at wins.

funny thing is if miles paid attention to the process he could easily have 5 more wins or more on his record.

You have the same attitude as our head coach. That is why we look like shite a lot of the time, and always have close games.

What if....?

What if the 4th and 16 is not a miracle completion?
What if we make the 2 yards and a first down to ice the game?
What if he misses the field goal?
What if we cover Yelding and stop him for a 5 yard gain?
What if Okie State doesn't lose to an inferior Iowa State team?

What if? LSU would be playing for their 2nd championship in a row and would be seen in a lot different light. Offensive woes or not.

A few minor things make a big difference! Don't you think?

Yes winning is all that matters, but sooner or later we all know CLM dumb arse mistakes will bite him in the arse a couple times a year and cost us championships. That's what's frustrating even when we win

You know what? You're right. I mean, look at Alabama this year. They could easily be 10-2 this year playing Clemson in the chicken bowl.

If Dial doesn't lay a dirty hit on Murray, maybe he completes some passes. Or if the refs call him for unsportsmanlike and eject him, maybe that's the difference.

If Chavis doesn't puss out and go prevent and make McCarron look like Peyton Manning they definately lose against LSU.

Or perhaps Notre Dame? They had 5 games that were within 7 points and could have easily gone 7-5 this year with one play in each game going against them.

It's like y'all don't watch other college football teams because you're so busy bitching about ours. Luck and having "one play" go your way is part of the game - it's why we watch.

If that's the case, I don't understand the grief towards the 2nd and 2 playcall. It was perfect. except for a shitty QB throw.

I wasn't posting on here in November, but man, just think about that one Yeldon TD where Minter inexcusably tries a fake blitz (& Barrow too!) up the A gap out of a dime defense when the 2 extra dime backs (Mills & Eugene) were both blitzing off the edges. Talk about an absurd play that changed the fate of the year. Cray cray.

I never got a chance to say this before so I'll just go ahead and say it now--THERE IS NO WAY THAT SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED.

A lot of people around here would be singing a different tune about the program for sure... but not me!

LSU was 2-3 against good teams this year. Maybe if Miles's offense was geared toward actually outsmarting, outmaneuriving, or outexecuting an opponent rather than just overpowering them we could do a bit better against teams with whom we're merely physically equal.

This is true in the NFL...not so much in college....and can get your program in deep trouble if you really only believe this.

I've said this for years, but it always keeps happening...until it doesn't.
