Too much institutional inertia from a decade of running the ball, playing to his players strength, or avoiding players weakness (or both)?
None. Although it is our strength, he would still like to be 60/40 or 55/45 run to pass.
I don't understand why people cannot understand the concept of a) taking what the defense gives you or b) not showing your upcoming opponents exactly what we're going to do

You just listed 3 seasons of samples. We only have 2 games to look at so far, against subpar opponents.
Comparison is invalid

Simple answer.
Haven't hit SEC defense's yet. Just take a deep breath and remember we have only played (2) games.

1. We're 2 games into the season
2. LSU has a much better defense then Pitt and NC State
3. LSU offense is built to run the ball

1. LSU has played two games. Neither of which required them to sling the ball all over the field to win.
2. Last year's SEC rushing leader is in the backfield. A guy who is talked about as being one of the top 3 RB's in the country. It would take a dumb OC to NOT get him the ball extensively.

such lame and tired excuses

You have to apply what happens in games and realize adjustments are made.....
We soundly beat two inferior teams with big plays and shoving the ball down their throats.. Who cares how many attempts it took, the end game was a success..

Gets to LSU and Etling is yet to get out of teens. What's up?
We blew out our first 2 opponents. Or would you have rather us throw the ball 10-15 times in the 4th quarter in each game up by several touchdowns

What?!?! We've punted the ball only a handful of times. Our offense has just steamrolled people. We threw the ball very accurately and effectively in both games. I'm convinced some people just like to complain.

All these excuses sound similar to the ones used to support Les Miles' offenses.
Most plausible explanation is that it's a combination of things. There is some carry over (or hang over) from the years of recruiting run first players and imprinting on them a pound the ball mentality. Which is probably true throughout the SEC. Etling's skill set is more suitable to being a game manager. We have Guice. We haven't had to play from behind yet...etc, etc, etc...

Canada does not operate on a run-pass ratio.
He operates on two things:
What are my team's strengths? (Guice and speed in our case)
PLUS
= Run Heavy... so far

It is new for us and wonderful, it's a change that will become apparent as the season goes on
