We should appreciate the 2005 season more

2005 Team as many of you know went 11-2 while being blown out by Georgia in the SEC Championship game and losing to Tennessee on the Monday Night Game....
The team itself opened on the road against Arizona State which was originally suppose to be a home game but it was moved due to Katrina.
The team then played Tennessee on a Monday night thanks to Rita... this was after many of the athletes had their apartments, schedule, and everything changed due to the hurricane.
Thanks to both of these storms the season was a wreck, LSU played 11 straight weeks without a bye when no SEC team was close to that. When they played Georgia they had already played 10 straight weeks and they were probably physically and mentally tired.....
Say what you want about Les Miles, but I think he was the glue that held that team together during what could have been a horrific time. With the hurricanes and everything else that happened on campus that year LSU could have been excused had they gone 7-6 as the season just seemed less important for many of the athletes on that time who dealt with family members having to relocate.
The team did bounce back from the Georgia loss in the SEC Championship game to dominate Miami in the Peach Bowl with Matt Flynn filling in to Jamarcus Russell...
Honestly, I think if Rita had not happened LSU goes 12-1 on the season and ends up playing in a BCS bowl

I remember that Tennessee game like it was yesterday. Hot as frick, no power, mosquitoes everywhere, little arse radio...
fricking beat that arse in the first half.
Probably my most miserable game experience.

agree completely...I think the team did a fine job that year and battled through some serious adversity to wind up with a damn nice record...
and FWIW, that monday night game is one of the hottest I can remember...it was hot as balls in those stands..

Yeah frick Tennessee and their TPOS players posing for pictures with the block-T flag at mid field.
Great season though. Miles did an outstanding job with that shite show.

I blame the people sitting behind us... We stood entire first half and second half people behind us got a Marshall who told us we needed to sit or leave. We started sitting down at the start of the second half and LSU collapsed

Had never, ever, NEVER, EVER sweat as much at an LSU game as I did at that one ... we were one really stink stadium!

That was my first game in tiger stadium, and it was kinda surreal. I remember a layer of funk hanging over the stadium all night and it smelling like a dirty gym locker room.

Yea that definately sucked, but it made the 2006 game in Knoxville that much sweeter when we came back and won at the end. I'll never forget sitting in Neyland for a while as everyone was leaving thinking about how crappy it felt a year before and how it was great redemption in 06.

That semester was my lowest gpa while at LSU. Everything was a mess. I always gave much respect to the team and Miles for what they accomplished that season.
I did not care much for the Miles hire. But I was sold on him after that season.
Eta:and yeah, that game was disgustingly hot.

I woke up at 03200 (3 AM) in Iraq to watch that Tenn game. It was the best first half ever.
The Miami game was great. We were down 3 to 0 and then after this shout out we unleashed 40 straight points.

Is that you? If so, that's a really cool thing to always be able to say you were apart of. Also, thanks for your service to this country.

quote:tduecen, I agree with everything you stated in your post 100%. I said in another post earlier in the week that in my opinion, Nick Saban would not have been able to handle everything that was happening to the teams season. When LSU hired Miles, I remember thinking to myself, "Is this the best they could do?", but Miles has proven to be a fantastic hire.

That is so cool ! I didn't even realize that the can of whoop arse was opened right after they featured you- very nice! The miami game was awesome because we beat them up on the field and in the tunnel afterwards.
