But we must not forget Pocic struggled with a then freshman Daron Payne, who is having a strong Sophmore campaign himself. This year Bama rotates him and Dalvin Tomlinson, a 5th year senior in the Saban/Bo Davis system.

I know games are won at the LOS, but we really need Pocic to be able to handle these guys before trying to help Clapp at Jon Allen. Boutta will take care of Dashawn Hand and Weathersby will NEED to be able to handle Tim Williams and Ryan Anderson speed rush because the aTm line couldn't (even though ours is much better).

Let's frick up some Alabama!!!

There is no doubt in my mind that we win or lose depending on how our O-Line plays.

the last really good d line we played was auburn and they pushed us around good, i really just dont think we have the talent on the o line. for supposedly being miles strength he has some really bad o lines. hopefully now with him gone our o line and qb problems will go away

It will help that etling moves around well in the pocket and can still throw an accurate pass and can find an open rec. Harris, not so much. So, that's a big time upgrade there, IMO.

To be fair, it is much easier for the dline to be aggressive when they know exactly what and where the play is going.

Here's the deal I don't think we will go man to man but instead we will figure out how to leave one of them unblocked and put 2 on 1 of the most effective DL man they have, and run the play to the other side, chip with a TE when running and they will not be able to just tee off on these TEs bc they can also chip then head down field for a pass. I just think we will have a plan and that plan won't be man up, we will be much more smart in this game knowing full well bama is tough in the trenches. I think we will mix it up on the OL using different blocking schemes to throw bama off. Miles never took full advantage of our strengths Ed O will do that bc he knows what this game means to the players, fans, and his future as the HC. This is the game to showcase what he can do and what kind of team he has put together. We'll see

Yeah, I hope the OL has worked out as much I have thought they should, since last year's game... otherwise we will get run the F over.

Watching Clapp last week he looked like he is still favoring that shoulder.

Pocic didn't struggle with Payne. He struggled with A'Shawn.

The big thing about that game is we had several guys out of the game with injury or playing hurt. We are pretty close to full strength going into Bama.

He definitely struggled with A'shawn, but I remember him some having real trouble with Payne

I think it is going to be an extreme test for our coaches to find a way to get the O-line to play above their heads and maintain that for 4 quarters. Bama has an NFL ready D-line and LB's. It is going to take extreme effort by the O-line to counter that. I think that we have the players to do it. At times we have seen them get pushed around , and others we have seen them open up holes that you could drive a truck through. Which line shows up?

We won't win this game on the line if we go straight at them.

We just won't.

Alabama's Defensive Line is too strong and they will dominate our OLine.

Miles would have gone straight at them anyway and we would have lost 31-13 or something again.

The hope is that LSU does something different to take away Alabama's strength and get the ball to our playmakers instead of running right into the middle of it and getting eaten alive. We have to create mismatches and misdirections. If we don't do that, we will lose and lose badly. It is that simple.

We're not beating Alabama on the line of scrimmage on offense. We're just not. An, we might not beat them on the line on defense either. That was how Miles wanted to approach the game and its fine if you can do it. But, we were dominated by Arkansas, Alabama, and Ole Miss ON THE LINES last year and we were dominated by Wisconsin, Auburn, and would have been by Alabama again this year.

Miles Ball only works if you can dominate the lines of scrimmage, which we have not done in years against good teams.

True, but coach O has let Grimes coach these guys, manage his position, and run some different blocking schemes that Miles didn't let him run prior. That coupled with not being so predictable should pay dividends. Prior to Miles dismissal everyone knew what was coming. Toss dive with a straight up hat on a hat blocking scheme.

I would take a play out of the Saints playbook and bring three wide in a tight bunch formation and use the short pass as something of an extended handoff. WE are going to have to prove more proficient in the passing game to pull off a win. That will be the only way to allow LF7 to be effective.

O and Ensminger are going to have to aim for 45-50 plays each half. You have to wear these guys down.

Not a terrible idea at all. In that bunch set you can put a TE and FB and use them to help out on the edge with the LBs and OLBs allowing Fournette and Guice to get outside. There are ways to attack Bama's defense. It's just that we happen to have the most archaic coach in all of college football the past 10 years.

That, and... if someone is struggling get them some help quickly, at least for a play or two. A well coached team (which Bama is) finds a weakness they not only continue to exploit it by continuing to hammer away at it but exploit it in the sense that they will exacerbate it for you.

For example, if OT is getting beat by speed to the outside because he's off balance not only will they continue to do that they will send a LB or blitzer to the inside of that OT to turn 'pressure' into a 'play'.

So if you don't get them some help quickly, your trouble spot turns into a bad play (worst is turnover, or scoop n score) in a matter of plays, not quarters or series.

Here's where we've failed in the past... if they target a weakness like that one, for example, anticipate them bringing that extra man and run you a play that exploits that blitzer or the continued outside technique like a tunnel screen or quick slant to slot/TE (again, just an example). That's how you beat them to the adjustments and [maybe] both turn a weakness into a strength, if just for a couple of plays.
