We cannot rely on Fournette as our only form of scoring for the Bama game..

Saban will be prepared for Fournette and we know they will stack the box. We will have to pass the ball effectively to produce points. Along with this, there has to be major blocks produced by the o-line,or Etling will be bombarded. I expect Chark, Dupree, and Dural to make it very challenging on Bama's dbs. We should focus on using Guice and Fournette in the same plays for the unpredictability. I feel that our defense will be making Hurts scramble the whole night, which means White, Adams, Toliver, and Jackson should be ready for the quick shots down the field. Beckwith,Key,and Riley should produce plenty of tackles and sacks. Defense will win this game. We are going to give Hurts his first experience of Death Valley which will impact his ability to communicate. All of these factors will be the reason that the Tigers take the win

Don't worry. Saban will make sure Fournette doesn't do the scoring for LSU. Bama will shut him down, again, and it will be up to Etling to try to keep LSU in the game.

Against OM our first plays, several in succession, were passes with LF7 on the field.

I dare say CEO and Ensminger recognize this fact, unlike some previous coaches.

Note since his MSU days Saban always stacks the box, it just doesn't look that way pre-snap every down. Cue the "it's a trap!" meme.

LSU will test the Bama Secondary without Eddie Jackson at Free Safety. Etling will find any coverage breakdowns that happen.

OP you nailed it. Les tried to keep running it at the bama defense. this will not work and never has worked recently. Im hoping if DE cant find receivers open downfield he can scramble but i havent seen any indication that he will do that. DE will need to hit some long passes early. The bama CB's will be in the Wr's faces waiting for shot passing routes. If we can get bama out of stacking the box due to successful passing then we have a chance to run the ball. LSU will need to play great on offense and defense side of ball to win this. I believe it can be done. LSU is not intimidated by bama even though we have lost 5 straight. It will be a slugfest i'm guessing but these games usually are in recent history.

This. Saban will pull out ALL of the stops to make sure #7 doesn't beat his team. Someone else will need to step up as well. We need the TEs to play a role and the WRs to create space for DE.

You do realize that we did that last night at least to a decent degree... Why do you think LF was able to run for 284 in 17 carries...

Etling was 19/28 for 204 and 1 TD. Good but not great but it was the play calls that were important. They made Ole Miss cover the whole field.

good point. OM was all over the screen and wide-short passes. Bama has always been all over them. Best to not start with those, will have to work the sideline long(er) or middle of field to loosen things up.

Thankfully LSU stopped trying them against OM early because they were on top of 'em. I did wonder why not test the waters there again as soon as they started stopping the run game.

Your premise in your thread title is correct. But, when 3 of his 17 carries go for almost 200 yards, what can you do. The same thing applies to the time of possession stat. I believe we have lost this stat the last three games but look at the final scores !
This being said, a balanced offense is the most successful way to play.

If Etling can hit a few bombs early then they will have to respect the pass and then Leonard will shine. I think he goes off on Bama this year...at least 200yds total.

We need more drag routes, double moves, but basically getting the mismatches we can win but we need to be able to run it

What everyone is failing to realize including the media is that this is NOT the same coaching staff preparing for Bama.

Coach O, Dave Aranda, Pete Jenkins and Company will have different formations and match the skill sets of our players. This is another underrated aspect of this matchup. Trust me...Fournette gets his yards since our offense will be more balanced!
