Cy Young threw 749 complete games in his career in 815 career starts. The highest paid players of his generation were Ty Cobb and Nap Lajoie who made $9,000.00 a year in Young's final year. The highest paid player during Cy young's prime made about $2,000.00 a year. Clayton Kershaw made $221,476.51 per INNING last year. Baseball has changed a liitle pal.

The average income in the US during the 1920s was $1400 a year. And the average US income from 1900-1910 was less than $500. Put to bed the notion that old timers "would have played for free."

Did I miss the part where LSU's pitchers were paid professionals?

Thats kind of a shitty example, every job pays alot more. A better example would be to see how many starts a pitcher gets in his career then to now.Cy Young started 906 games over 22 years. Kershaw has started 286 over 10 years. Really the diffence now is less inning and more injuries, you can you Kershaw as an example. Ok we can use someone more recent than Cy Young. Nolan Ryan 807 games over 27 years. So the best pitchers of three different eras, 2 will have a longer careers and less injuries. Yea the game is much different today.

Yep, let's jeopardize the future careers of amateur athletes.

It will be great for recruiting and we can show the world how tough we are when we blow some kid's arm out! We should have left Walker on the mound and completely destroyed him!
