If the offense does anything at all remotely average we win that game going away. The defense played great against a very good QB and WR, but just couldn't hold up at the end.

The offense had exactly one drive the entire game... the first TD was set up on a short field after a fumble on Clemson's first posession. The second drive ended with a great pass to Landry after a decent series, but that is the only series (65 yds) that went for more than 26 yards. Jeremy Hill had a great run at the beginning of the second half for 57 yards, but it's hard to call that one play a drive. The only other score, a FG, was set up on a short field after another fumble.

I'm more excited than ever to see the team balance CCC is able to bring this season... if it's anywhere near what he is capable of we will have an unbelievable season.

The three passes in a row before Clemson's final drive were bad decisions. They would've worked if executed properly, but that drive needed to eat up clock and their timeouts. The clock kept stopping and they didn't have to use a timeout..

i was at the game in person, and i dont think i ever want to watch the replay on tv. The end of the game drives against Clemson and Bama were painful to watch.

I watched it the other night and it was a very very winnable game. Two of LSU's last three bowl losses could have been and should have been wins.

at the very least

even the bama loss in New Orleans would have been winnable if the offense had been even remotely average... the defense played unbelievable ball to keep that game close through the 3rd quarter

True, but the offense was so bad in that game that LSU never had a chance. I kept thinking a play or two could get them back in, but the whole team looked shell shocked. I've never seen a 21 point loss in which one team was so outplayed.

yeah, the special teams and defense played admirably but the gap between LSU's offense and Bama's defense on that day was as large of a gap as you'll ever see.

in retrospect we should have known it was coming. there were echos of that same lack of production early in the Arkansas game and for the entire first half against UGA in the SEC CCG.

The defense played great

Giving up almost 500 yds, bout 50% on 3rd down conversions, and 25 pts doesn't equate to "great" play on the part of any LSU D I have watched play.

That 4th and 16 conversion they gave up for 25 yds in the last minute was terrible to behold.

Not saying the O wasn't a lot more disappointing, but I can't give the D a A rate rating.

To be fair, if the Offense cannot stay on the field for more than 2 minutes per drive, and the Defense has to play the majority of the game, no one should blame the D for giving up too many yards, because they are simply playing defense scrimmage solely against an explosive offense and they will get tired eventually.

yeah, they only gave up 384 yards for the whole game

that is fricking amazing considering LSU had 2 first downs halfway through the third quarter. I mean seriously, put a great defense up against even an average offense for three solid quarters (with no relief) and you should see a lot more yards than that from the offense.

With all that said-they should have NEVER allowed them to convert on that 4th down..what was Reid thinking???

He was thinking "don't get hurt", and who can blame him? Horrible play calling in that game. We had packed it in as a team.

That's pussy-ball! As soon as we went to that strategy against Bama they took over the game. You play to drive and score - not eat clock - until you reach the point that eating clock virtually guarantees victory. We were not at that point against Bama or Clemson.

Yours is a mistake coaches make because, on paper, it seems to improve their odds. What they're not accounting for is that it turns their players from predators to pussies.

LSU was one first down away from winning both of those games. The Bama game, sure, passing was our best shot at moving the ball. But the Clemson game????? LSU had 2 downs to get 2 yards!!! So in our infinite offensive coaching wisdom we decide that rolling Mettenberger out of the pocket (where he had completed about 15% of his throws on the year) was a better option than handing the ball off twice to Jeremy Hill who was averaging 10 yards a carry. If the 3rd down pass wasn't batted down at the line of scrimmage it would have certainly been picked off one of the two defensive backs swarming the intended receiver who was running yet another short hitch.
