That coaching makes all the difference in the world. LSU needs a great coach who ever that may be we need one. Not only does LSU but the SEC needs LSU to hit the home run hire IMO. If you not convinced with Houston bc they are Houston then maybe Washington can convince you. It tells me that Les hasn't been a very good coach for a good while also. This really was the only time we could have pulled the trigger also unless we did it after 08 or 09 which we just won a championship. This was the year.

Anybody that watched the Washington-Stanford game and still thinks Shaw is LSU HC material is delusional and

Harbaugh built that program and Shaw is letting it regress. He can't even keep the same level of Harbaugh excellence with one of the best players in college football...........

Just wait until Houston loses a couple games. Jimbo already got schooled. Who's left?

We have had the watching paint dry predictable David Shaw offense long enough. Equal talent both sides of the ball it just doesn't hold up consistently. Don't need the well spoken African American version of Les Miles

No doubt about it. We're feeling the truth of that equation in a really bad way right now.

Yeah, Eddie O is the next coach at LSU. We can get him for a bargain price and he's a true Tiger.

David Shaw is a very good coach. But his teams play the exact same way as Les' teams did with a power running game. A lot of his success is that that type of offense is an aberration in the PAC 12 and teams do not see it often. When his lines are able to manhandle defenses designed to stop spread offenses, they usually win. When they get dominated in the trenches like they did Friday night, they typically lose. Last night's game looked eerily similar to last year's LSU-Bama game. Shaw is a very good coach, but would be a horrible fit at LSU at this time.

He is most definitely LSU coach material, but that doesn't mean we want him. He's a smart, defensive minded guy and the only real difference from his pro style and Les, is that his QB is at least a good game manager in his offense.

His problem mainly stems from the same 1960s type offense as Miles, except because he has McCaffrey, he can get more creative with him.

Shaw isn't letting it regress you moron. They won the Pac last year and destroyed Iowa in the Rose Bowl.

He lost to a very good Washington team that I've been telling people about all offseason. I also said when the first offseason rankings came out, that I had no idea why Stanford was ranked so high this year because they lost their 3 year starting QB, and 4 OL. In this game they were without both starting corners as well.

With that said, I don't want him here because his offense is boring and more of the same we've had the past 8 years just with competent passing. We need to go spread to utilize all the great talent in Louisiana and Texas, I mean look at this list of Louisiana WRs on other Power 5 teams

TCU - John Diarse, Kavonte Turpin
Texas A&M - Speedy Noil
Arkansas - Jared Cornelius
Nebraska - Stanley Morgan Jr
Georgia - Michael Chigbu
Alabama - Cam Sims (they also had Daylon Charlot, but he transfered or plans to)

Four Louisiana WRs transfered from LSU (two 4 stars, one 5 star), and one 4 star Texas WR turned FB(???) transfered, since spring! LSU still has a 5 star WR, four 4 star WRs, three 4 star receiving TEs, and two 3 star WRs, all from Louisiana!!! Then we also have another 4 star Texas WR on roster. Add to it that we have a 4 star Louisiana WR (in JUCO now), a 4 star Texas WR, and a 4 star Florida WR in our class right now.

Louisiana and Texas produce tons of dual threat and pocket passing spread QBs, yet, we were out here running a 1960s offense. Makes no f**king sense. Not to forget, we have three 4 star RBs and a 5 star RB all from Louisiana. We have not been utilizing our resources correctly, and it pisses me off.

I agree with most of this but also think that the pro style can still work. It's working in Michigan and can work BUT you need to be able to run shotgun for teams like Bama out of this pro style. We need to have a coach that knows how to create mismatches like they do in the pros. Maybe that is asking too much for college QBs and the college game period?? I really think LSU is the perfect school to run the type of offense they had at Miami back in the day and USC back when Pete was there. You can line up without the FB or with the FB but just be more creative with the play calling. You do need a great QB, a smart QB to run this though. You have to be able to implement some spread type of offense when playing teams that you don't match up well against in the trenches. But like I've said LSU just needs to be competitive against people we won't win every game but at least look good in a lose and when we do win. A great coach can get this done. Also with 3 or 4 years with this type of coach we can recruit the best and they will want to come play for this coach.

I also wouldn't be upset if coach Herman came in and did change the offense completely. I just think we could still be successful with some real game planning in the pro style with said great HC. One thing is for certain we need to be smart with this and know what fits LSU and what we need.

and it always has. at any level.

those idiots that think any coach can win at LSU just because of louisianna talent are not very well informed. I will be accused of having some sort of Miles lover agenda but that's a crock. it was time for him to go. my agenda, which is openly stated, is that the next coach may or may not be an improvement but we had to try and improve.

regardless of who we hire, us fans really don't know who will be the best hire until the seasons unfold.
