Talented freshmen

1.1 innings
2 hits
3 strikeouts
No walks

We're a young team but good to see some fresh faces contributing to a new look for LSU baseball.

Solid debut for Gilbert. Very nice to see the newcomers making their mark on this team.

I didn't know he had that kinda gas. I looked at the pitch speed and was impressed. He's gonna be a good one.

His curveball was nasty.

This team is going to drop a few games when they run into great pitching, but this group will be a very very good one.

I was impressed with his breaking ball and fastball velocity. I wonder his endurance. Could he be a potential starter? Does he have a 3rd pitch?

This may be a little unfair after one outing, but he reminded me a lot of Lange. Very hard thrower with nasty curve.

Anyone have a story about how we pulled this guy from Hoover? LSU family ties or did he watch us win a few SEC tournaments there that won him over?

I said the same thing. I like that he throws strikes and has a "strike em out" pitch. He will be a solid reliever this year if he can keep that up.

If Gilbert has a nasty curve ball then he is not like Bain.

I guess time will only tell about his endurance. If he keeps pitching like that though he'll get some longer and longer relief opportunities for sure. Happy for the kid

Mainieri mentioned earlier this year he would be a starting candidate, but as the workouts and scrimmages progressed he said he can even see him becoming a closer or setup man. He's got two very legit pitches, unlike stallings who just throws gas. Hopefully he sees some high leverage situations and we see what he can do. So far very impressed!

Hopefully he developes a change up over the offseason and could be used as a Sunday starter
