We are making the trip to USCe this year and would like to see if one can give me info on the city/stadium. After the game we would like to find a sports bar and check out the town. Where would be some good places to do such and how far from the stadium is the place? We are staying at the Mariott on Hampton St. TIA

Head to the vista not five points.

There is a twin peaks that just opened up but it honestly isn't that great. Hickory Tavern is a good one close to you. There is a parking garage across the street at the hotel.

Lots of stuff near there too within walking distance. Liberty tap room, flying saucer, oyster bar, pearlz, mellow mushroom, etc.

Stadium is pretty close to downtown. From you are you'll take assembly street all the way out to the stadium.

Pretty much what drexyl said. Do not go to 5 points no matter how many people tell you to go there. We'll be tailgating around 8am since the kickoff is noon.

5 points is all I have heard until this thread. What is wrong with 5 points?

5 Points is more a college crowd

Vista is more a 30-something and up type crowd

Columbia is a mid-sized state capital city. It reminds me a lot of Baton Rouge in some ways. The campus is located downtown but the stadium is several miles away at the fairgrounds. When I was there last, the area around the stadium wasn't much to look at. There were lots of warehouses and such. Apparently, they've fixed it up quite a bit since then. The fans are pretty nice, but we encountered quite a few a-holes after the game. The stadium can get pretty rowdy at times. If we let them hang around until the 4th quarter, we could be in trouble. They give visiting fans pretty crappy seats. We were literally in the 2nd row from the top of the upper deck. Parts of their band pre-game is a rip off of ours (4 corner salute) because their band director is an LSU alum. They love 2001 and Sandstorm even though both are dated and pretty lame.

Vista area is better for 30+ folks and closer to stadium. More eating and drinking options.

Back in 2009, the kids and I wore our LSU jerseys (yeah go ahead and pile on--but the kids were young and it was fun to do it).

After we won the game, we had no negative comments. Comments such as "good win, we hope you win the west" were most typical.

We cheer for good plays, first downs and TDs. We don't cheer for USCe f-ups, penalties, etc. Visiting fans have an obligation to show some respect. Respect given, respect earned.

Unless you have a Gator, Clemson or UGA jersey on, you'll be fine with their fans. USCe fans hate their team this year anyway--they have no expectation of a close game.

I wish this were true. You should prepare yourself for lots of verbal abuse, especially if you're tailgating.
