UNPOPULAR OPINION: alleva made the right call

the job of the AD is to run the athletic department with regards to football operations, the state of louisiana and the rest of the sports at LSU.
Firstly, Miles did not get fired for his record. He got fired for his obstinance and unwillingness to embrace change and a new coordinator. He got fired for underachieving. If one was to think that Miles could've succeeded had he been willing to embrace new OC and offensive philosophies.
The finances: the state is perpetually in a budget crunch. Miles has a buyout and might not get hired elsewhere.
if one believes that Miles' tenure was successful but could've been more so, hiring someone who takes the best qualities of miles (recruiting, state ambassador) but with a more open-minded approach at 75% of the cost is a win.
we will retain aranda. if aranda bolts we will open the checkbook for the best DC on the market. we will poach from other power 5 schools because we have the money talent and facilities to do so.
we will get a top flight OC. if he bolts we will open the checkbook for the best OC on the market.
lastly, jimbo and herman didn't want to be here. if they did, they would've been.
all of this will cost less than what we would've paid to gamble just for the annual salary on the flavor of the month Herman or the resume' resting Fisher.
this was the right call for the program at this point. joe refused to gamble with LSU funds and got the man who wanted the job more than anyone else.

Yeah. Other than the reports that LSU balked at 6 million for Herman and wouldn't wait around on him.

we'll see if tom herman is worth 6 million dollars a year. he hasn't done a damn thing yet.

true, BUT, the State does not pay the majority of the coaches salary. That come from TAF (Tiger Athletic Foundation)

Herman wants Texas job, let him have it. We want someone who will work tirelessly for LSU. Coach O will do that and the players love him. Somehow, I think we may have gotten this one right.

And, he was playing LSU to get more money because he wanted to be at Texas all along. How people don't see this is beyond me.

Herman might be UM, NS and the bear all rolled into one. He surely hasn't proved it. 6 million a year for 5 years is a huge gamble.

Stowing away money to hire Avery Johnson.

6 million for 5 years is a huge gamble for any Athletic program. That's NS type money for a guy that coached two years at Houston.

Dinar do wanted the LSU job and worked tirelessly also. How many times did he beat Alabama in his tenure as LSU coach. How many of those victories were at home in Tiger Stadium.
ALABAMA hired Mike Sula because he really wanted the job and was a tireless worker. Where did that get them?

So you're saying with our hiring prowess and track record when Aranda bolts we'll probably throw the checkbook at Chavis and for OC I'm sure Crowton will do great

The problem with this is Alleva had 2 months to get a coach locked down and we settled for O. Alleva is a terrible AD.

LSU will open its checkbook for every position except head coach

You spend more money when you have to pay assistants head coach money to cover for O's massive inadequacies.
This is a horrible hire no matter how you put it, especially if O is getting $3.5 million per year as it is despite his horrible past.
If this was about money, LSU could've hired a guy like Fleck for that much.
