Out of that entire piece, the title of the article is "Tyrann Mathieu wanted to skip the national championship game"....
That is a great example of part of what is wrong with this society. Out of all the intense, meaning filled, and introspective reporting, they pull out one insignificant aspect, and twist it to sensationalize.
It worked too. Half of you idiots either passed judgement without reading the piece or didnt understand the context. For all you pulling for Mathieu to fail, you certainly dont treat the people you love in your life with the same lack of compassion that you do with Mathieu when they struggle with something.
Society is too quick to pull the trigger on criticism, and too hesitant to change the point of view and think about yourself or a loved one in the same situation.
If you havent, please take the time to read the article.
Im pulling for Mathieu, to go high in the draft, and break NFL records, but more importantly to win in his battle with addiction, and to have a good and happy life filled with peace. He is a Tiger for life, regardless of what you peons "think." and I wish the same for all people, but especially Tigers!

What resulted for Mathieu was a season of contradictions: He led LSU to an SEC championship one week, then met in secret with a school psychologist at an empty Tiger Stadium the next. He went back home to New Orleans to play for a national title and spent 14 hours a day sleeping in the team's hotel, too depressed to see visitors in the days before the game. "I don't even want to play," he told Sydni Russell, his girlfriend, who was then a freshman at LSU.
Here is the quote from the espn story.
LSU's defense was not the problem.
LSU's lack of an aerial attack, and Les Miles' lack of adjustments to Bama's defense was the problem.
Miles not Mathieu acted like he was stoned-out during the title game.

If he said that he didnt want to play the game, or if it even crossed his mind then he lost a fan today. I dont wish him any bad luck, Im just officially done caring about the guy as an athlete.
I was fortunate to play in a few big games in my life and I thought of many possibilities leading up to game day. But not once did the thought of not playing the game ever cross my mind. That mindset is too selfish for me to root for and the more that i read about this guy the more troubled i believe him to be.

Have you ever been in a clinically depressed state leading up to those games??
If not, then don't judge TM. You haven't been in his situation.
When people are actually in a depression, not just having a bad day or feeling a little down, their minds don't deal with situations in the same way as they would in a normal frame of mind.
You're being level headed by saying you don't wish ill on him, but don't think that just because you've played in "big games" that you understand what was going on in his mind and can judge him.

No LSU fans or LSU players wanted to play that game.
And there's no excuse for that!

Interesting reading the comments of that arcicle, Lots of negative stuff.
Some of these athletes like Tyrann do actually mature at some point. He'll need support, tho

Wow. You, apparently, have never dealt with clinical depression. You sorry arse.
As a further refute of that post, he didn't even work out at LSU's pro day. I hope you really enjoyed your "big games" Uncle Rico.

Hey bro, I didnt mean to be insensitive toward depression and how it affects the mindset of good hearted people. I dont down play that at all. I dont judge him like that at all!
But Im done rooting for him as an athlete and if I were a GM in the NFL, I dont believe I would draft him.
You are either a good teammate or youre not. You either represent your school well or you dont.
Tyrann needs to stop hurting the same people that care about him the most, its inexcusable at this point.

Exactly, something is wrong when you can't get a team up for a National Championship game in New Orleans against your arch rival in your own conference. History in the making and an undefeated season on top of that.
Idiots will make excuses though.
He was at the pro day and did some drills. He was even allowed to do an ESPN interview in the facility.
Lets dont make this about us.
His clinical depression does not force his lips to make these comments. Not every one at a job interview would say I stopped counting at 10, depressed or not.
Miles and LSU have done right by him, he should return the favor versus his continued negative comments.

Only time I noticed him in the game was getting abused by fricking AJ McCarron. Good riddance to this kid. I'm sick of hearing about him and how much he didn't care about his team.

If you are no longer a fan because he didnt want to play the game, then you both do not understand depression, nor were ever a true fan of his.
How could you possibly argue that Mathieu just didnt care about LSU and not play with heart. When he was on the field, he got more out of his playing time, and played with more heart/guts than anyone Ive seen. I dont think any of us should question whether this kid loved playing for LSU.
Thats not the problem. He was experiencing such hopelessness and despair that he couldnt even get excited about playing in the national championship for his beloved team and teammates, and slept for 14 hours a day. That shows just how dark and turbulent the atmosphere was in his mind. You really have trouble interpreting whats going on here if you question whether he would want to claim victory for LSU, play well in the game, and serve his teammates.
Its a game; Im more concerned with this kids life. Rooting for a team or a program isnt just about winning, and isnt just about being the best all the time. Just like love, you enjoy the good times, and weather the bad.
You dont have to root for him. Im sure it wont matter to him, or keep him up at night

It's a revealing and sad commentary, that at the exact moment the whole country is watching the apprehension of someone truly evil and worthy of being hated and scorned, that so many people can't see the difference between that and freaking TM and continue to spew hate and vitriol his way.
Seriously, I just don't understand so many people in this world.
Isn't there enough hate without trying to tear down a troubled young man who may or may not have played his best in a football game after 2 of the most memorable seasons in our school's history??
You're not a fan of his anymore because he was clinically depressed and didn't play as well as we were used to seeing?? Tired of hearing about him??
Wow, man.
