Since the one from last night is locked on the score board, and the day crew needs a chance to show some love.

After seeing Fournette plummet into irrelevancy the last 2 weeks, Mathieu's 2011 season deserves even more appreciation. I cannot think of any other player since 2005 that has been able to consistently transcend the terrible positions the coaching staffs have consistently put Lsu football in, put the entire team on his back and will them to a win.

Offense doing nothing in the first half against arkansas? 92 yard punt return for TD, Force a fumble on the next arkansas drive. Completely changed momentum of the game.

Offense doing nothing in first half against Georgia? 62 yard punt return for TD, recover fumble on the next possession, return punt on the next possession inside the 20 yard line in spectacular fashion. Completely changed the momentum of the game.

To one of the greatest to ever put on an Lsu uniform.

Arguably the greatest single season in LSU football history.

Best player in the country in 2011. If defensive players were considered evenly with offensive players, he would have won the Heisman that season.

Awesome player.

He was a beast. He added some good punt returns at the end of the year. He struggled all year there before the Arkansas game though. One of the best tigers ever.

I feel like this was explained pretty well in OP. Watching someone as good as fournette get dragged down by this coaching staff, watching a struggling offense, watching a team go through the motions in desperate need of a spark. Mathieu was able to overcome/change all of those things on his own. As good as fournette is, even he can't do that.
